There are even warnings for people traveling to Cyprus for some reason and I think the warning refers to the Pontian Russians again. But in particular, there are warnings about Australians traveling to the unrecognized "TRNC"
BTW, Australia has personnel on the ground working with the UN in Cyprus so if someone gets into trouble the Australian Government can send one of its Federal Police. Australia does not use British proxies either. It can use Canadian proxies though. But Australian citizens get evacuated from Akrotiri if there was a war started.
Once again, people don't listen. I didn't when I crossed the Green Line and traveled to the occupied part of Cyprus. The Australian Government frowns upon it.
Traveling to places like Syria is pretty much almost illegal too. If you got Syria on your passport you will get interrogated about your business there.
Here are the Cyprus Travel warnings:

Russian travel warnings are actually very serious. Russia is flagged red, which means they are discouraging travel to Russia due to anti Western sentiment. Russian travel warnings here:

Just like I said. Despite the numerous warnings about Russia they won't reject any request for assistance from their Embassy there.
That's what the Embassies are for!
Even in Syria, where they make it very clear that they cannot provide assistance, they advice their citizens to call their embassy in Lebanon who in turn will act as a proxy.
