But nobody was "born in a country to citizens" of Cyprus in this case. Cyprus was not a country before 1960.

Cyprus was always Cyprus, from 1960 it became the Republic of Cyprus. If you were born before 1960, what were you a Martian???

All those British born Cypriots whose parents were born in Cyprus have successfully applied and obtain citizenship. I know one S.A guy whose mother was Cypriot, father Portuguese, he cannot speak, read or write Greek, yet he obtained his Cypriot passport and ID via the Cypriot Embassy (or High Commission) in S.A.

The route is there for him, but he needs to prove many things. He says Cypriot but doesn't specify what!!!!!

You were a subject of the British empire... or something like that. You couldn't be a Cyprus citizen because Cyprus was not a country before 1960.

Yes, but in this case we are not talking about parents, but about a single grandfather who was not a citizen of Cyprus. His mother was not born in Cyprus and she was not a Cypriot citizen either. So this case is different from the example you gave.

Before 1960 you were automatically born a British subject. After 1960, you could voluntarily relinquish your British identity and obtain a Cypriot one. Some members of the same family could become Cypriot and some remain British.

If you've lived in the UK for more than half a century, dodged your military service and lived like a μέγας ποντικός all your life, I can see no reason why YOU can't claim citizenship, I know an old geezer who proclaims himself a 'Great Patriot' and has a 'CV' exactly like that.

I know him too.

I remember that this was a huge obstacle because my father was a British. To be exact, a British Subject. he left Cyprus pre 1960.

Then I tried to get Citizenship and was denied it through him. Probably for the best as I would have been required to relinquish it afterwards.

I git it more recently and it was a breeze. So the laws must have been relaxed.
