Housekeepers/Household help

Postby jclo69 » Fri Jan 13, 2006 5:56 pm

How does hiring a housekeeper - either live in or daily - work in Cyprus? Are there agencies that one goes to conduct the interview? What costs, in addition to their salaries, would some incur - for instance, insurance, etc.

hello

I cant help properly on this, but there is info out there if you hunt it down.

What I DO know is that the govt has the whole thing pegged down. Household help is likely to involve Sri Lankan workers who possess workers visas. They are employed having shown this visa and work papers to the employer and the authorities who register them.

You then pay the worker a fixed sum of money per month. Strictly no more or no less, and the person cannot do jobs or services outside of this contract.

i think the sum is around £150 per month live in, but dont hold me to that.

you can ask your local municipality (council) for more details.

best of luck old chap

We're looking for someone who is quite experienced - with at least 5 years or more.

While we are not yet sure if we need a live-in or live-out housekeeper, that person would basically have to take care of the following chores:

* Laundry (wash and iron)
* Clean and tidy house
* Shopping
* Cooking
* House hold errands
* Other tasks which have been agreed upon in advance
* Party planning, holiday organisation, etc.

If we decide on a live-in housekeeper, the hours would have to be flexible with an agreement for certain days off, etc.

If we go with a live-out housekeeper, than once a week should suffice.

It is very difficult to bring a live-in from sri-lanka and Philippines now. The cost would be 150 per month + their tickets (2 way) + insurance + social security + 5 pounds extra every weekend + their food, accommodation etc.

Immigration are making it more difficult to employ Sri Lankan and Filipino staff, insisting that EU nationals are given the job; not many EU nationals will work for these wages.

Lana gave me a breakdown of the current situation. I really don't plan on flying anyone in from either of those countries. Aren't there housekeeping agencies in Cyprus that one could go to?

I have a neighbour who housekeeps, she looks after ours when we come back to England, she charges £4.00 an hour which I think is well worth it. I know you can get cheaper, but she does an excellent job and we trust her. Where abouts will you be living?
