If she wasn't Nationalistic, or she didn't have a hatred for Greece she wouldn't care about the Macedonia name at all. Those who do, only want to harm Greece.
Rubbish! Maybe they want Macedonia in their name because their lands once fell under the Macedonian umbrella?! I think we all know you especially have nationalist tendencies, not least because you constantly look up to the Turks' nationalistic ways as if it's something to aspire to, but you also see this as some sort of conspiracy against Greece. As far as I'm aware no one is denying the real, ancient Macedonia is in Greece, so I don't understand what harm will come from them adopting the name in some form, if that's what they feel their country should be called. It's not like they pulled a random name out of a hat!

Why is Nimitz and the USA involved? because they need to get FYROM into NATO (with Greece) and the only way they can do that is by brokering a deal. NATO is the biggest security blanket that actually protects Greece.
The stakes are very high and you can bet your bottom dollar that USA and Russia are jockeying for the upper hand. USA believe that getting FYROM in NATO will best suit Greek and US interests because the last thing they want is to have Russian Troops on Greece's northern border. A country of 2 million is no threat to Greece. But Russia is, and the fear is that FYROM doesn't get into NATO then it will go with Russia and then Greece is in trouble because they got Russia on its border and that isn't good at all.
Welcome back Cold War. Russia and USA are fighting for control here. If the Russians win, they are closer to the Aegean. Just 200 kms away in fact.
I think that's just paranoia, Greece is a EU member state with clearly defined borders. Nothing bad in wanting these two countries to cooperate for the greater good of the region, tourism etc.
Paphitis wrote:You accusation against Greece is actually very false T_C. Greece is the little pawn being manipulated here. But Greece does have a friend. it's just some people can't see it yet. They won't see it until they are invaded
What accusation against Greece?!
It was you who said the Greeks cannot live under democracy and that they should live under the dictatorship of the Junta, I was just trying to point out the ridiculousness of it, that you would rather such extremes over these 2 countries finding an amicable solution.
It's no different to what goes on in Turkey with their frenzied protests every time the nationalists come close to having to concede something, so I don't believe it an issue unique to Greece.
Anyway, how did I get so wrapped up in all this!!!!
Don’t make me laugh T-C. I never said the Turks are to be looked up to. More like spat upon.
I said that the Turks are more Nationalistic than the Greeks are. Far more. They are also headed towards Islamism.
Greeks can be quite nationalistic. For instance, right now there are demonstrations all over Greece with hundreds of thousands of people on the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki. This is a good kind of patriotic sentiment, or pride and maybe a smattering of some good nationalism to boot. It’s all good. The demonstrations have been very peaceful as well. Just a lot of chanting, flag waving and singing.
With regard to FYROM. They are actually trying to claim the Macedonian identity and history as their own and this is what they were brainwashed to do under TITO and throughout the existence of Yugoslavia itself. They also make de facto territorial claims against Greece. They have included maps of a Greater Macedonia in school books and even on some coins.
Greece is absolutely correct to take this seriously. Problem is, Greece’s Government makes compromise after compromise and the people are correct to have concerns. It’s like the Cyprus Government who have been the only one’s to make compromises in the negotiations with an occupier. It’s like negotiating with the rapist that has raped your Sister.
Yes, you are correct. I believe the Greek People shouldn’t have democracy. They need a benevolent dictator probably from the military. Democracy has proven to be no good for Greece. And I am not criticizing Greeks. They just aren’t regimented and easily led as some other nationalities are. I could be saying Greeks are very independent and confident. In fact that is exactly what I am saying. They are no sheep like you. They won’t follow. Hence the requirement for dictatorship with an iron fist. They need some one who will not give them a choice.
And by Dictator, I don’t mean someone completely evil like Pootin or Assad. Someone with an air of benevolence but not a cruel criminal like Pootin and co etc. someone who just wont take any crap but would otherwise leave the general populace to live normal and happy lives. No martial law or soldiers on every street corner type of thing but yes to law and order.
I mean it must be so shocking for people to have to live under the likes of Pootin, or Erdogan. One can only imagine how bad it must be.
