Northern Cyprus and its International Status - The Truth!
Well, finally, after many years of debating the Cyprus issue let's be honest about Northern Cyprus and where it's realistically going!
My question and your investigation - Please try to think about what I am about to write as it's the honest truth and the state of play on the ground. Make of it what you will, but it's how the world and also the "Republic of Cyprus" sees Northern Cyprus and what may now become of it seeing that a BBF will never happen.
The Truth:
As the "TRNC" is not recognised, what exactly is it? Let's be honest here. What has the Republic of Cyprus done after decades of pointless talks? Let me answer this in the following sentence below quoted from former TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat, Let me also point out that Mehmet Ali Talat has not used the term the "TRNC", but "Northern Cyprus".
"As Northern Cyprus has no international status or representation or acknowledgement apart from being recognised by Turkey, as a BBF formula has not been accepted or put in place and as there appears to be no future sign of any breakthrough in negotiations to date, I can honestly say that Northern Cyprus is a territory of the Republic of Turkey [and has been since 1974] unless the Turkish Cypriot state receives some kind of status from the outside world. The problem today is that Turkey controls everything in Northern Cyprus where it is only a matter of time before its territory is eventually populated with people from Turkey more than its Turkish Cypriot people. Consequently, Northern Cyprus has been allowed and has been accepted by the UN, EU, Greece and the Republic of Cyprus itself in becoming an indivisible part of the Republic of Turkey. Nothing will ever change unless the Republic of Cyprus initiates a platform of acceptance for this territory, as each passing day sees its integration with Turkey getting stronger and stronger. The Republic of Cyprus has knowingly allowed this to happen and continues to allow it by accepting its fatal repercussions. I reiterate again, if "Northern Cyprus" has no status, if the Republic of Cyprus continues to ignore the Turkish Cypriot administration, then at an international level they [the ROC] have allowed and are allowing Northern Cyprus to overtly become a province of Turkey", Mehmet Ali Talat, 2004, immediately after the failure of the Annan Plan.
