I remember in 1974 when the media, Greek Cypriots and Greece in particular were chanting how Turkey will never send troops to Cyprus, that it was categorically out of the question. But, while reporting on it at the time, I knew well before had that “Ayse” was preparing to intervene. The same signals are now being sent from Turkey again, and unless you know how to speak Turkish or read their news, you will never know their seriousness until once again it’s too late. However, this time Turkey’s messages are not of intervening, but are of maintaining the order and rights of the Treaty if Guarantee. Their message is wide and clear - the Greek Cypriots once again falsely and sadly believe and are behaving as if the island of Cyprus belongs to them! Read the news reports, or timely news reports I should say, gradually coming from the TRNC and Turkey. Mesut Çavuşoğlu and the top ministers of Northern Cyprus have been saying over the last month. Turkey is not stupid as to why Crenshaw its soil I. Cyprus as it regards the territory as a sufficient base for its next province, where more importantly, and where Turkey has actually gained the most, is its extension of the sea surround Cyprus and its continenrtial shelf. Turkey will exercise its power within these waters along with its Air and land superiority, creating another flashpoint with which Anastasiades will ha e no choice just like Christofias was subjected to in 1974 in calling an emergency Crans Montana to rapidly resolve the Cyprus issue once and for all. Think about it. Unless there’s a flashpoint, the Cyprus issue will go on forever, and what better opportunity will Turkey now have after 50 years of fruitless U.N talks than now with the coincidentally engineered Hydro Gas scenario. The major players have always known of its find, do you honestly believe that the Hydro Gas affair suddenly emerged due to new technology! The Greek Cypriots will soon have to decide if either accepting a Federal deal of two founding states in an emergency Camp David style, or the complete destruction of their Hydro carbon gas affair similarly to what happened to the VAROSHA - a capped and dead deal until the Greek Cypriots once again understand that the island does not belong to them. With the stage of the UK leaving the EU for reasons most of us do not fully realise or understand, I would t bet on the EU rushing to help you in the new crisis to emerge. I am surprised how Anastasiades can sleep at night, unless he’s more stupid than what we already believe he is to be!
