Importing and selling a car in Cyprus

Postby mikeoc » Sun Jan 14, 2018 6:59 pm

Hi again,

Apologies, I've had quite a few questions already. I'm just wondering if anyone knows the costs involved in importing a car to Cyprus and then if it's possible to sell it before I move back home?

I'm coming to Cyprus for a year, it might make most sense to import my car and then before I move home to sell it in Cyprus? I was thinking about buying something here but I also need to sell my car back home, so maybe just bringing my car over makes most sense. Anyone know if selling it in Cyprus is allowed?

It is certainly possible but whether or not it is cost effective would depend on where you currently live and the kind of car you have. Here is some info for shipping from the UK: http://www.shipcars.co.uk/shipping-to-cyprus/

And if you are not in the UK, then your car probably has its steering wheel on the left, so selling it in Cyprus would not be easy.

Why not take it back when you leave? :?

I live in the UK so it's the same side of the road. Is there a big import tax for bringing your car here? I've had mine for 2 years. But basically I had a look at the cost of second hand cars in Cyprus and it's a lot higher than at home. I was wondering is it possible for me to ship my car over, use it for the year and then sell it when I'm leaving as I'll get a lot more for it in Cyprus than I would in the UK.

Dude, you’re only coming here for a year so don’t burn your bridges!

Leave your car where it is because you’ll need it when you return home.

Public transport sucks here so just buy an old banger when you get here for 1,000 and you’re done.

You can then sell it to a Pakistani/Sri Lankan student for 500 and get outta here.

Haha I'm going to be getting a company car when I return so I will be selling it regardless.

What I'm wondering is can I bring it here and sell it or will I have to pay an import tax and if so is it substantial? I've owner the car for 2 years.

Read this: http://www.mof.gov.cy/mof/customs/custo ... enDocument

Or just call one of the shipping companies and ask them.

I read that, thank you. Ok, so there essentially an import tax, but I can get relief from that if I can prove my residency in Cyprus, show I've had the car for 6 months in the UK and show that I've been insured on it. What I can't find anywhere is if I'm allowed to sell the car here ?
