Cost of Living?

Postby mikeoc » Thu Jan 11, 2018 10:33 pm

Hi,

Apologies if this question has been asked before, I'm new to the forum and will hopefully soon be new to the island. I'm currently thinking about taking a career break and have the opportunity to work in Cyprus for the year. The problem is the monthly wage is 1,100 euro per month. Rent is paid for by work but what I'm wondering is, can you get by on 1,100 a month in a city like Nicosia?

I don't live an crazy lifestyle, I eat out 2-3 times a week, maybe go for a few beers 2-3 weekends a month. I'm wondering is it possible to have a reasonable lifestyle with that or am I just kidding myself thinking I could enjoy my time in Cyprus with those funds?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice :) Mike

If that money is for one person you'll be just fine!

Also you should have in mind that you will need a car. So, if the company will also provide a car you will be OK.

Each meal will probably cost you 10-15 EUR.

Utilities may vary if you need cable TV, fast internet, etc.

If it's going to be only for 1 year you should definitely try it!

If you are single then you will be fine. If you need a car then you might be better of buying a cheap used car for say €6000 and selling it a year later for say €4500 instead of renting for the whole year. Or buy a small motorcycle to save even more.

Better buy a run around for 600 euros, never mind 6k! Then chuck it when you go.

I already asked and the company won't pay for a car. I'd prefer not to buy one and have the hassle and expensive of maintenance and then selling it. That will be my biggest expense, I've factored in 200 euro a month for the rental, but with that 200 I won't have to deal with mechanic fees or depreciation

Have you found a car rental company that will give you a car for €200 per month?
