...i am guessing that Malas will make it through to the second round. However, Papadopoulos may split through the middle of the two "Cyprus" candidates.
...Anastasiades will win this election i think. Malas may have good insight in his economic views, but he will have to demonstrate that having a clear understanding of negotiations as they are, he has something to offer that would make a difference. If Papadopoulos moves to the second round, having split the "Cyprus" vote, it will coalesce around what is in effect the surviving candidate.
...Vassiliou's support for Malas adds to this candidate's credibility. My hope is that Malas and Anastasiades will focus in the first round on the other candidates, their weakness as "Greeks". This will have a significant impact on how the President is viewed when elected, whoever it is, either speaking for "Greekness" or a Cyprus for Cypriots.
If the final choice, under this circumstance, ends up as a choice between two "Cypriots" (as opposed to a "Cypriot" and a "Greek") it bodes well toward securing a dialog of trust, with Turkish Cypriots who choose to put Cyprus first, and with the International community who will see Cyprus "being" Cypriot, as a viable opportunity for their attention.
