...there you have it, the big difference, between the words state and nation. To know the Law and to respect it makes a State, to recognise and accept that there are Universal Principals where being a Citizen counts, not "Greekness" or "Turkishness". If you have the good fortune to be born in Cyprus (and Greek), counts, but to love the land, to love the people who are Cypriot in my mind counts for more. As Cypriots, if we are unwilling to stand united we are doomed to live the rest of our lives hostage to those of us who have no interest in anything but themselves, and who benefit from the hatred they provoke.
Cyprus is a State. It is a Nation because Cypriots as Cypriots exist as well. Cypriots for the most part are Greek, but they are not "Greeks". Those of us not Greek (or "Greek") are Cypriots as well, and as Cypriots we are not just a Nation of Greeks, we are Cypriots because of our commitment to a Cypriot way.
The word osmosis comes to mind. The fact that we live in a very mobile world, that we are Europeans too, that we are Human beings first, cannot be ignored. And if it is appreciated we will adapt in a manner where being Cypriot will be something more than the impasse we have created for ourselves, divided.
