Here's another approach to the Cyprus issues, which has unfortunately for the Greek Cypriots, been cemented by the EU. If you really want a Solution, don't bother with the UN Process or even the Original 1960 constitution and all of its treaties of Alliance and Guarantees, hence also dropping the British bases into Lagan disarray as they will soon no longer be in the EU, and ask the EU to seek their version of a Comprehensive Settlement. Which, if you are pragmatic and politically minded enough, will realise is clean Partition. You see Get Real, and the rest of you, the moment the EU openly accepted the application to join the EU by the Greek Cypriot administration only without the acceptance of the Turkish Cypriot democratic vote, the island was officially partitioned in 2004. The EU now has NO EFFECTIVE control of Northern Cyprus, nor has it made any amendments since 2004 to rectify this! Do you get May drift here? The UN was mortified when this decision was made, showing how disrespectful the Greek Cypriots were towards their so called Turkish Cypriot Compatriots, and it also proved how much the ROC resented any Turkish Cypriot Federal involvement by the TCs in the future. Clearly the Greek Cypriots are vehement in retracting the "mistake" of the 1977 High Level agreements to form a Bi-Zonal, Bi-Communal Federal government with the Turkish Cypriots, where the many rejected plans by the Greek Cypriots on is overwhelmingly evident of this fact.
Therefore, go back to your EU and ask them to, firstly start a legal process to remove the two very huge British base areas seeing that the UK will soon be out of the EU and it's so called sovereign areas are only as legal as the Original 1960 agreements - if you dare! And secondly, also, ask the EU why it partially accepted an Island into its Club when it clearly knew by doing so and rejecting EU membership of Turkey would destroy any hope of a Turkish compromise and defy the original 1960 constitution of the Cyprus Republic?
You see why Erdogan was laughing the Day you rejected the Annan Plan and was then allowed to enter the EU prior to a comprehensive solution. Do you not smell anything fishy from your dumb politicians. And, as if that wasn't enough, Turkey even further the bias policy of the EU by refusing to allow Northern Cyprus to Trade Directly with the EU. All this fuel for the fire since 2004 has ultimately produced only one result, and that has since been to soften other countries, unions and industrials in gradually accepting the TRNC and forming a relationship with her; OIC, Turkish nations, Mercedes, BMW.....and many more!
Everyday that goes by without the EU's acceptance of what it had done in 2004, is like Music to Turkey's ears when negotiating on the Cyprus problem. And now that the UK has left the EU, there's absolutely NO chance of a settlement unless it's in the form of a very Loose Confederation or a divorce like the former Czechoslovakia of Two autonomous States. Thank you Mr European Union - another fine mess it's made of another country!
