Apparently all the airlines are now open and recruiting. All stood down crews are coming back for training.

They asked me if I was still interested and have a job there guaranteed if I want it. What this means I don’t know. Originally it was mainline and my contract is mainline but they are toying around with different things including putting us temporarily on their subsidiaries until their training slots open up.

They have over 12000 pilots on their rosters.

I’m getting these weird feelings in the tummy again. I have ticked all their boxes and have the permanent residency which the US Department if Immigration didn’t revoke as its conditional on me maintaining employment there which I never even had the opportunity to start thanks to Covid.

I actually feel like I’m in love for the first time with a drop dead gorgeous vixen.

My agent is saying America has turned the corner and is looking at having an over heated booming economy with gdp growth of 7% and the airlines are now in a mad rush to get all their crews current again. :|

Paphitis, it is a “bear trap” and I would be very cautious if I were you. The ONLY reason why there are recalls for all the airline employees to return back to training is because the $Billions they have just received in the latest stimulus package from the government. When the airlines get back to some degree of normality, it will be global and not just in the USA. As soon as you see Qantas getting back to normal, then you can pack your bags to the US.

I am cautious but the Americans have just gone ballistic.

I have verified and they are almost at pre Covid levels already with pilot trading back logs.

They are bringing all the stops down Aussies back as well. And I got an email asking me where I’m at.

They said I have to be vaccinated ASAP. They told me if I can’t jump the line in Australia I can be vaccinated at the US Embassy at their cost.

In total contrast to what is happening in Australia where the situation is still depressing to say the least. The Americans are looking 12 months ahead.

It might be true what you are saying if they are cashed up. I guess they are looking at getting a head start but my colleague did say the US Market is showing strong signs of recovery. They must know what they are doing.

I know their mentality is different there. They are always ready to conquer the world.

They reckon the have vaccinated 80 million people already as well. That’s just phenomenal. :o

Paphitis, just to get you the real information on the aviation industry in the US, on your behalf, I have just now sent an email to my good friend who is a captain with American Airlines, as well as a line trainer. His wife is also a pilot. It is almost midnight in California (Wednesday) right now, so hopefully, I will hear from him sometime in the next day or so.

I’ll be eager to know. He should know my agent as well who is a consultant or recruiter and is a Captain at AA. I can pm you his name. Very nice guy.

I’ve kept in contact with him but haven’t spoken for about 6 months.

Until now where he sent me an email and told me AA’s main competitor that had the engine trouble recently is back on the move. So I guess AA must be on the move as well.

I’m literally in a state of shock right now. Don’t know what to think.

I have been looking into it from my end and it appears they are on the move and recruitment is open again. Airline Central has become active as well with people sharing all the interview questions and tech questions. I don’t know but I will be finding out.

To see where this leads.

They are all asleep over there now. I will be finding out more in about 8 to 16 hours time.

But it appears if I say I’m in, I’ll be over their within the next 3 to 6 months. The sim bottle neck must be horrendous.

It will take them 12 months getting everyone ready. That’s what I think they are doing. They are making everyone current again so that they are ready to go.

According to my source, they can’t meet demand and there are too many cancellations due to unavailable crew. Which is what is going to happen to the rest of the world in a few months time

Before you send me any names, let’s see what my friend says. It may well be as you have described it how things really are in the US. I know the aviation industry is in the toilet in the rest of the world and are all on “life support” from their governments if they are lucky. Israel just yesterday pumped more money into it’s air industry. Swiss is only flying fraction of it’s routes and scheduled pre pandemic flights and with only fraction of the seat load factor. Most flights are used for Cargo with some passengers. A total reverse from a year ago.

I’m shocked it has happened so soon. I was expecting something to happen second half of this year.

But when I think about it, the Americans never cease to amaze me Kikapu. They are definitely on a different wavelength to the rest of us and the rest of the world Kikapu.

They look forwards. Nothing’s impossible as far as they are concerned. They think the are the greatest country on the planet and know they are capable of anything. That’s my impression of them. They never look for excuses.

If they decide they want to build the biggest building, they just get to it whilst Aussies and Europeans will procrastinate and figure out its impossible.

Plus they just always dumb things down and never deviate from their procedures.

In the end, America leads and the rest follow. Been like that for 80 years now.

And their Covid stats are coming down and looking impressive given their population. Greece and Cyprus are doing worse than them now.

And their vaccination programs are extremely impressive given the volumes they have already administered.

And their economy has just gone ballistic as in a vertical incline. That country is just amazing to see what they are capable of.

America is just geared for business and the corporate world. Capitalism at full blast and pedal to the metal.

Paphitis, keep your soles on earth and let’s not get carried away.

Only several weeks ago the aviation industry in the US sent thousands of their employees notices of furloughs. The only reason things are starting to reverse by bringing the employees back is because of the stimulus package from the government and not because of huge demands.

The pandemic goes through cycles. Lockdown and the Covid numbers goes down. Relax the lockdown and the Covid numbers goes up. Vaccination is the only salvation if it really works, but half of America is already rejecting the science on the vaccination.

It cost the same for the government, to give money to the airlines to bring their employees back and keep them current or leave them on the unemployment line and remain rusty.

It cost the same for the government, to give money to the airlines to bring their employees back and keep them current or leave them on the unemployment line and remain rusty.

That was nearly a year ago Kikapu when the shut hit the fan.

I remember it vividly as I had a fly out date and a start date fir 4th of May. I still got the email that informed me that I’m on hold until the situation “stabilises”. NYC went into Covid meltdown shortly afterwards as well. Body meat trucks in the streets and a general state of emergency.

I just got of the phone with my QANTAS mate as well and he said he was aware they are pretty much at pre Covid levels already and in panic mode because they can’t let their pilots slide further out of currency. He seems to think they will be first to recover and have a lot to think about as well because it’s dam hard mobilising their thousands of pilots to be ready and available.

At this point I do not know what they have in mind. I know the regionals are in full recruitment mode. I don’t know why but I can only guess the mainline overlords who own them are shedding loads to their subsidiary lower cost carriers.

But I have also heard mainline (AA, United and Delta) are calling their pilots back for training and the first batches are a lady through. It’s a mammoth task.

AA has 14000 pilots, United 12000 pilots and Delta 10,000 pilots.

They make Qantas look like small fry.

QANTAS is also calling its pilots back. All domestic pilots are back on deck but they are working a 2 on and 2 off roster. That’s how they are tackling it.

International Qantas pilots are being called back in stages but put on domestic routes. They are starting to use the A380, B787 and B777 on domestic flights so they can grind their international crews back into currency because they plan to start international flights by October. That’s only 6 months away with hundreds of pilots out of currency.

The A380 is looking to debut on the Sydney to Perth and Brisbane to Perth routes.

My friend, who is B787 endorsed has not been called back yet.

Sorry for giving the impression my feet on not on the ground. The truth of the matter is I have very high levels of stress right now and very mixed emotions. Both excitement and also fear and a whole lot of other things such as apprehension.

I was not expecting this email but when I saw it in my inbox I was very happy to hear from him as I think we established a good friendly rapport as well. He genuinely wanted to know how my wife and children were as well. Top class gentleman.

I wasn’t expecting to hear from them for at least a few more months but here we are. It seems like the blades are turning again.

America waits for no one. But at the same time I don’t know what I’m dealing with here either. Whether the contract is the same or not or whether it’s mainline or LCC. I had a very generous contract signed and sealed just before May 2020. With massive bonuses. I don’t know what the story is now but will be finding out.

American warns 13,000 employees of furloughs as airlines prepare to lose federal aid next month

American and United together cut more than 30,000 jobs last fall after the first round of payroll support expired.
American had braced employees for possible furloughs last week.
The latest round of payroll support expires March 31 and labor unions are seeking more government aid.

American Airlines sends warn notices to 13,000 workers
American Airlines on Wednesday said it will send furlough notices this week to about 13,000 employees as a second round of federal payroll aid is set to expire next month and travel demand remains in tatters.

“The vaccine is not being distributed as quickly as any of us believed, and new restrictions on international travel that require customers to have a negative COVID-19 test have dampened demand,” American’s CEO Doug Parker and President Robert Isom wrote in a note to staff.

Rival United Airlines last Friday sent similar furlough warnings to 14,000 staff members.

The latest $15 billion Congress approved for U.S. carriers late last year required airlines to recall the employees they furloughed in the fall and maintain payroll through March 31.

202p was a huge kick in the guts for me.

I at one point was chasing my tail taking leave and going to US Embassies fir interviews, finger printing and vetting, had gotten through the process and was offered a position.

Only fir that stupid Covid taking everything away from under me. That’s life I guess.

As soon as I was getting back into my routine and come to terms with everything, I get this email.

Literally, I don’t know what to think anymore.

Been talking to a lot of people about this. From QANTAS to Emirate, to Cathay, to Air NZ pilots I know. Many who are not working at present.

The emotions I’ve got are like I’m back at High School or something abd getting that email from an old crush or flame. It’s insane.

So I got to weigh up my options very carefully. Plus I do want to fly in America. It’s a bucket list thing. The American market is like no other. Just flying in their air space with their ATC is an experience like no other. America is America.
