Donald Trump has issued a stark ultimatum to the European Union, threatening widespread tariffs unless the bloc increases its purchases of American oil and gas.
repulsewarrior wrote:...tariffs will cost Americans dearly; he ignores the fact that it is in the end the final consumer (the American public) which pays it. Also he is often quoted saying that he considers a trade imbalance as a subsidy, which it is not. In short, his reasoning is flawed. America will lose credibility as much as he hurts the economies of his trading partners. No one will want to trade with him and they will adapt accordingly.

Donald Trump is stoking geopolitical tensions in the Americas with his claims to Canada, Greenland and Panama.
Trump is thinking of US interests and previously stated that he almost considered Canada the ‘51st state of the United States’. Once he is in the White House, he wants higher import tariffs on goods coming to the US from Canada.
For its strategic and economic value, he has also set his sights on Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark. Trump sees US ownership and control of Greenland as an ‘absolute necessity’ to ensure US security and freedom for the whole world.
