OK, so you are not an Englishman, but you can’t have everything.
Don’t worry as most Americans wouldn’t know the difference between an Englishman and an Aussie.
Most don’t even know where Australia is.
Hell, most don’t even know where Tennessee is, and some them even live there.
Very stereotypical.
Most of the Americans that matter, all out trainers and minders certainly do know where Australis is and they are actively seeking Australians to employ.
They only want Australians and Canadians and even have a special visa for us.
For some reason they don’t want or are not seeking Brits.
Our accents do attract their interest and curiosity. Most do know who we are but there are the occasional ones who wouldn’t know where Australia is or get Australia confused with Austria. Americans do have a big liking towards Australia and Australians generally. It’s very easy being Australian in America.
But at the moment I mostly only really interact with other trainees, ground school instructors and coordinators who actually hold our hands and even take us to a Bank to open an account and do all the admin stuff like take us to the FAA office to get our qualifications transferred. We get 1 day off a week but once we start sim we will get a few more because of scarce sim slots.
As for Cyprus, not many Aussies know where Cyprus is neither.
As for NYC, it’s a great place. But it’s not number one choice. I chose it because my wife believes it would be easier for her.
It’s probably not the greatest place to raise a family.
There are better places like Boston, and Philadelphia.
But for me, I would prefer going out West for the Mediterranean climate.
I’m hoping that a few minus 20s might wear thin for the wife and she asks for a transfer.
Aussies are no polar bears. Having said that, I do have a thing for Denver. I tried to convince her about Denver as that’s where my recruiter is based. He was trying to convince me about it and it’s a gorgeous place. A bit hard to get into but my recruiter said he would pull some strings for me and get me there.
Most ideal place would be California though but wife doesn’t like LA that much. She likes San Francisco though. But she is also scared of the San Andreas.
But for the moment, nothing really pops out to me as being bad. America does have its warts. But the advantages are far greater but it depends on personal circumstances. The Health system isn’t much of a disadvantage for most of us because we paid insurance in Australia. We will pay insurance in America. The cost is offset by the US Tax system and rate of tax.
Everyone talks about the stereotypes. And a lot of it is because the Americans elected Trump. So everyone wants to bag Americans. But their society isn’t like that at all. It’s a great country which will always attract the ambitious among us. And there is a lot to see and do. You couldn’t possibly do it all.
The food takes a bit of getting use to. It’s super big, cheap and not very good for you. I’ll need to find some good markets and continental places which I’m sure are abundant in New York as I’m pretty picky with my food. Don’t want to fall in the fast food traps of America. And also maintain my fitness is important to me. So need to find a good gym etc or personal trainer.
Lots of decisions need to be made and it will take a couple of years before we are fully settled. We hope to do some intra US travel. We need to find where we will want to settle. My wife wants to buy property in NYC, Philly or Boston for the kids to inherit. So they can come and go as they please, a bit like yourself. Maybe to go to university etc.
There was no fraud, as in the past tense; it's ongoing.
...but you're right on one thing Kiks, Trump is its originator, and he stands to gain the most from it.
Just around the next elections (in less than two years) America will be in the thick of it, i'm guessing; i have popcorn ready, watching this show, but i'll wait before cooking it up.
...as the facts continue to be realised, it is hard to imagine that this can go on forever, or, no where.

There is talk of his ego not being able to cope with two times loser. He may not stand. Who ever stands for Democrats he has no chance anyway and the Republicans know it.
