I look forward to it. Did you get to Polis? We're very fond of Latchi and go up there often. It's great for a walk along the Akamas coastal path, particularly in the spring time when there are wild flowers carpeting a lot of the hills. On the way over we sometimes stay at the Droushia Heights hotel. It's a bit expensive but if you go off-season you can sometimes get a very good deal. The view out across Crysoucos bay is breathtaking.

If you want a rec for a very good but inexpensive, beach-side hotel in Latchi PM me.

Good luck on your explorations.

No!!, don't do that, tell us about how you managed for more than 50 years to avoid spending enough time in Cyprus to qualify for military service.

Did you always ensure that you would only take a week every year, or did you chance a ten day or fortnight ?, I am sure we would all love to know, particularly those who (like yourself) would not venture to set foot on Cypriot soil for any extended length of time for fear of being required to do their duty.

You could be helpful here, just how long DOES one have to be resident (or in YOUR case had to be) before one becomes eligible for the dreaded prospect of training in a military environment perchance one's services should be required to defend the country ?.

You see ?, you actually COULD be of some use to others of your disposition, do them a favour, 'Spill the Beans', you know you are good at that. 8)

He left Cyprus BEFORE the 1960 independence.
He got married in the UK and presumably got the British citizenship.
The National Guard was created in 1963. By law it was only drafting GCs turning 18. No-one of older age was obliged to serve.
Most of my uncles were about 25-30 by then. Nobody served...
Many years later they introduced a new law (i think it was in the 90s) according to which any GC expart below the age of 40 who wanted to return permanently was obliged to serve for 6 months. I remember there was a wave of 2nd generation Cypriots abandoning South Africa back then, who could not even speak the language and got trapped in this fiasco.

Perhaps you confuse the situation with what's going on in the occupied. There each and every TC expat, is oblidged to serve as soon as he returns, no matter his age or current citizenship or reason for visiting (e.g for a few days holiday).
This is the reason Kikapu returned to Cyprus, but did not dare visit his relatives in the occupied.

I really shouldn't care about you fighting amongst yourselves but it is upsetting me. Why don't you all grow up and just live and let live? you know the saying "Don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to yourself". The man is a senior citizen for heavens sake, leave him alone. He has come back to the country of birth and is clearly loving it. What pleasure could you possibly getting from doing what you're doing? Unless you're twisted and evil? Grow up and show some respect. Such intelligent, educated people acting like spolit little brats.

Whatever you may say, i am looking forward to the summer, after school is over; this is a great topic, thanks to miltiades, despite, (lol) the interruptions.

...frankly, i can't be bothered to try and remember what you called yourself, then, Schnauzer, but it made for interesting reading.

Thank you RW, I DID try to present some articles laced with (that which I would call ) levity in the hope that others may enjoy the read BUT, having borne the whip of my 'Arsolic Friend's' vitriolic insults and abuse for so long, I consider it equitable that I should retaliate since the alternative is unthinkable.

He becomes emboldened whenever he senses that his comments are acceptable and, more to my own shame, my responses have in the past impacted upon my own position on this forum..., I have, in the past, even made sport of YOUR 'Manifesto' BUT, I am sure there was never any malice intended on MY part, since I know that your intention in presenting it was to seek solutions to insurmountable problems, my apologies if you regarded them as insulting, they were presented as (possibly a clumsy attempt) to entertain and I am hopeful that they were received by you in that spirit.

Very sweet and quite big hearted of you.

Well done mate!

he also lived in the UK, and could have easily returned to his country in need. Granted, if he was in USA, Canada, or Australia, it would be more difficult.

It doesn't take much to return a little bit of National Service to the country you claim to love.

Consider it a reprisal until such time the old chap learns a bit of respect for other forum users.

We didn't just wake up and decide to troll the hell out of him. That is what he has done to others, including myself, and now he reaps what he sows.

I would be quite happy to leave the old fart to his own devices, but he needs to learn to do the same, otherwise it will not bode well for him and his forum presence I am afraid.

We all have a right to participate on this forum and he has the right to post his life story or post anything he likes but these rights are reciprocated to others as well, and they too are allowed to exist without the vitriolic abuse and foul mouthed attacks which are toxic and personal!

he has been emboldened by hoodwinked who is another old man with an exceptionally very big chip on his shoulder.

This poisonous old chap (Senior Citizen or not) has been a thorn in the side of ANY member of this forum who has dared to disagree with HIS point of view.

I consider him to be a disgrace to the nation (whichever one he chooses to take up residence in) and he thoroughly deserves the level of disrespect he has attracted due to his unacceptably vile personal abuse whenever he engages in (that which HE considers to be) a 'Debate'.

Take care 'Al' (If I may be so bold) that which you have written will be received by him in gushing terms, since he craves acceptance among respectable folk whilst sadly lacking the qualities expected when communicating with polite society.

You have done him (unwittingly I am sure) a great disservice by posting a defense for him, he will now seek to extricate himself from his own filth and rely upon your support as he continues his campaigns of unremitting abuse......such a shame, you have interrupted his course of re-education and God only knows the result.

Incidentally, your reference to a 'Biblical Pronouncement' is certain to fall upon 'Stony Ground', the renowned 'Blasphemer' has faith in neither God nor Man and there is no hope for him in THAT direction I fear.

Absolutely the Male equivalent of a vindictive 'Virago'................inebriated most of the time for good measure (or to boot).

You are on record as a devout supporter and admirer of the barbaric savages going by the name of Isis. Each and every disgusting act perpertrated by these savages you not only excused but joyfully applauded. Your disgusting thread "Sling them off" referring to gays being thrown off tall buildings, your excuse of the savage who indiscriminately shot and killed innocent tourists on a Tunisian beach, your support of the Paris massacres always offering an excuse for these hideous acts, your conviction of molesting a child, which ofcourse you deny, have led me to form an opinion of you and to consoder yoi as a sick pervert.
You praised Allah on numerous occasions,
Following your conversion in prison. Now of course you tell us that you nevet converted, it goes without saying that every one has the right to believe whatever
crap one wants to believe in, unless of course one happens to be in one of the countries that yoi so adore in which case you could end up without a throat or burned to death.
To summarise? I consider you a despicable human ....thing and I politely ask you to fuck off Pervert.

Your fanciful retaliation is precisely that which one would expect from you, it is further conformation of your depravity and audacity.

if it is your intention to perhaps drag me down to YOUR level, I feel I should inform you that such a prospect is beyond your capabilities.

I can only reiterate that which I have informed you of severally, READ, DIGEST and UNDERSTAND that which is written before you draw conclusions.

The game is up for you, the TRUTH of YOUR position is very well documented and, facts are facts and must be faced....Have a nice day. 8)

There are a few of us that think and know that you are a despicable human being. First of all, this isn't the first time you talk so much shit and put words in people's mouth.

The guy is a self confessed homophobe as I am a self confessed racist. There is an inherit quality to such cander. Most people are afraid to speak the truth as you yourself are and try to hide their tiger spots, whereas people like he and I are upfront. What you see is what you get. I'm not going to pretend to be a non racist when I behave the way i do in raising my kids the way I want them raised. In other words, I would positively freak and have a mental break down if they bring me someone home that isn't on the Paphitis Approval list.

Society is at the cross roads. So many people consider themselves to be non racist, but dig deeper and you will find that they are. I am all for honesty. Pushing racism to the underground is the worse thing society can do. Racism is still there, it's just under the table and it is occurring every day when jobs are handed out and for lots of things.

But he does not support people being flung off buildings ok. Or beheadings or burning people alive. Stop talking shit! He never said such a thing and to pretend he did is just pure fantasy on your part.

he doesn't support any terrorism either.
