I hope you are enjoying your retirement in Cyprus now, I'll get in touch next time I'm in Cyprus if you are up for a glass of red or two.

Hi Jerry. I couldnt be better, just regret not making the return sooner.my 29th day today and its sheer bliss. Keeping busy with grandchildren . I would love to share a bottle or so with you when you are over here.

You should have a party.

We had one seven years ago in London, it would be good to catch up.

Get Real! wrote:Milti, fear not living permanently in volatile Cyprus, for if it ever came to the point where you’re down and out… I will personally collect you from the streets of Paphos and…

1. Open the doors to my luxurious shed to you.

2. Throw in a run-down but very drivable Mazda 323.

3. Introduce you to the ever-so-lonely chubby widow down the street.

So there you go… that’s House + Car + Woman in one swipe!

I offer the full emergency package! 8)

Now that’s TOTAL peace of mind at a very affordable €99.99 + vat p/month! :D

Because you just never know when you’ll run into those Poles again… (or they run into you) :?

Thanks for the offer GR . My penthouse is in Limassol by the way. There is however something you can do for your ....old mate.
I have a Samsung laptop that appears to have a problem with the charging port. Was I to bring to Nicosia would you be ...kind enough to repair for me and also throw in a charger??
Would appreciate it ...mate

1. If the laptop always powers on when plugged in but the battery doesn’t charge then what you need is a replacement battery.

2. If however, the laptop never powers up even though it’s plugged in the AC then you need a replacement power supply.

NB1: On rare occasions, the motherboard may be faulty and still not power up even though the power supply is fine.

NB2: On other rare occasions a shorted battery could impede a healthy P/S from powering up a laptop. In which case you can remove the battery and see if the P/S powers the laptop up.

So which is it in your case?

Be it known to you that Samsung parts are very hard to find in Cyprus (I for one have no idea who deals with Samsung here) so we would have a problem getting a proprietary Samsung battery but we shouldn’t have a problem getting a suitable universal power supply which work fine.

So to recap... batteries = proprietary, power supplies = universal.

Milti.

If it turns out to be the battery there is a shop in Limassol on the corner opposite the Main Police station (near the water tower) that has thousands of batteries of all types and will rebuild it for you if he cannot find one. Worth a try if that IS the case?

Milti, I suspect you have a broken charging socket. If you need to hold the power lead at an angle, it certainly suggests this. It is a very simple fix and I doubt very much if the part is not readily available in Cyprus as it is a pretty standard part.

Any competent computer shop can remedy this for you.

By way of computer shop in Limassol, I can't recommend Spyros Spyrou (a London Cypriot) of Ultimark Solutions more highly, close to the sea-front Debenhams - tel: 25356855. I have always found him to know what he is doing and he stands by you all the time.

Not if it is part of the motherboard, as it was on a Dell I had, only solution was a new motherboard.
