If you had looked very carefully ...... the article was very clearly defined by one word at the head of the page ..... SATIRE, you know funny-ha-ha and not to be taken seriously, although the basis of it was in fact correct. Maybe you should have checked that out rather than the life history of the author? :roll:

Very little of your frequent anti-West posts are anything other than that. However presented. Having read the article I took the trouble (most wouldn't) to have a look at him. As with other occasions when I've done that it revealed somebody with a high degree of anti-West prejudice. In this case yet another mouthpiece operating from Moscow.

The Russian defence budget is being cut as a result of economic realities.Nothing more. Nobody I know of envisages Russian tanks rolling back into Poland.

The Russian defence budget is being cut to focus on health of the nation. Health economics, which I have worked in, is very crude. In the UK one uses what are known as QALYs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality-adjusted_life_year, however divining these is an art form in of itself.

The Russian defence budget is being cut because they can't currently afford it. Not to divert nonexistent money to some other aspect of the economy.

But it's not mutual. The US under Trump have just declared an increase of about $50 billion a year to almost $650 billion. To put that into context the total current Russian budget is about $65 billion, projected to reduce to $48 (for reasons previously outlined). If I were Putin that wouldn't leave me with a warm feeling. :shock:

But Putin doesn't think like you!

He knows what he is doing and he has the US running around in circles trying to play catch-up. I think you will find that militarily he is a good bit ahead of the US, the Russian philosophy is very different to that of the US. The US spends $17bn on an aircraft carrier, (That is having problems already) plus as much again for it's 150 odd aircraft, the battle group and then spends $7m a day to keep each carrier at sea. ........ the Russians spend $3m on a weapon that can disable/destroy it. The Russian philosophy is defensive whilst the US philosophy is offensive.

If that fails then they have enough nuclear weapons to wipe the US off the face of the earth ..... although I suspect the rest of us would go with them, including Russia. There would be no winners! :cry:

GIG expressed the view it was good that there are now defence budget cuts between the old US/Russian adversaries. A sort of detente. I pointed out why she's being mistakenly optimistic.

No, I am correct in the reasons for cutbacks in Russia. What's delusional is the inference that they're in some way a peace gesture. It's always pointless linking these things but you have only to look at the deterioration in Russia's economy over the past couple of years to see what's going on. To make the sweeping, dismissive comment that it's "seriously flawed" is a typical reaction from you when faced with the unpalatable. Push it away, move on.

You have an odd, schoolboy-like view when it comes to the relative capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces, vice just about any other. I've watched you slogging it out with Paphitis for years. It always reminded me of those playground spats "My Dad's harder than your Dad". :roll:

Russia and the US are not going to war with each other. There are other fish to fry and other ways of making a point. Aren't they friends nowadays?

The détente is down to the arrival of pan-dimensional beings from God knows where who are aiding the underprivileged with their technology. Russia has realised that they will go the way of the U.S. unless they behave themselves in the hope that said beings will treat them with respect, which is likely. I am merely reporting what I have witnessed, like the pan-dimensional beings I have no interest in aiding the psychopaths with technology that they would abuse.
