The only airline in the world, to my knowledge, that on entering your debit card details you were advised that ONLY credit cards were accepted !!!
A few years back I telephoned Nicosia and asked why debit cards were not accepted. Company policy I was told. Never used CA since then. Their prices were the highest, ludicrously high and what annoyed me most was on selecting your flight on line at a specified price as shown, on going to check out the price increased dramatically , I know that a number of other airlines also do this, I just do not like it at all. You give me one price then you add so called fees etc, fuck that, just tell me from the start how much it will cost me don't try to pull the wool over my eyes.
I sincerely hope the new CA will be run efficiently and be competitive with other operators. These nonsense about " low cost" airlines is just that Total nonsense. I do not fly in order that I get a free meal , I and millions of other flyers want to get to our destination safely and at a reasonable price.
By the way, I have booked a one way to Paphos on December 18th, with EasyJet at £132.00 .This is value for money.
You have absolutely no idea how an Airline runs or how they recruit staff and maintain as well as operate their aircraft. It's an expensive business with razor thin margins.
At the end of the day, you are being flown around with Junior Pilots with minimum hours and if that is what you like because you consider an £132 Airfare between Larnaca and London as a viable proposition, then you inherit the standards and safety margins you deserve. I often laugh at heavily discounted airfares and the smugness of the market but if they new what goes on behind the scenes, they wouldn't be so smug.
So you just continue to look at your value for money. As for me, I value my life, and the old cyprus Airways was one of the safest carriers in the world, with very high standards and brand.
There issue was more political rather than it being badly run. there was too much interference from Government and the Unions were crippling the carrier. There was nothing that could not have been solved.
For a big crash to reality, go and read Chesley Sullinberger and watch the movie too, to get an accurate descriptor of the industry you seem to support just to save a few bucks.
