Nobody is using the 100% of his bandwidth 100% of the time. With ADSL the speed is never guaranteed anyways. You need a leased line for that.

Agreed, but a thousand kids downloading a new game, software or video at the same time would just about create DoS conditions for anyone else wanting to watch TV or simple browse the 'Net. Would that be so unusual?

devil, they will give tv/voice trafic higher priority for sure. There is a mechanism known as QoS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qos

333 cytanet consumers using 1Mbps = 333Mbps

but Cytanet http://www.cytanet.com.cy/net.html says its connected to the outside world with a total of bandwidth 310Mbps (<333)... :P

So what you need to do is change your aspect. You should see primetel as an additional connection and increase of the total bandwidth to the outside world which also offers possibilities for higher speeds.
With primetel going online, even cytanet customers will benefit since part of the traffic will migrate to primetel.

If 1000 kids want to download 1GB video then it's sure is better to have them split on i-choice and primetel fiber. Who knows, some of them might even see the movie on primetel and save the gbs and dvds for something usefull :)

* I really hope cytanet is upgraded and that 310Mbps was before the adsl... :?

devil, you are stuck with dialup. Would you say no to 24Mbits at a good price if the actual speed you could get with it was 18-20Mbits? ;) 24Mbit is FAST even if you don't get the 100% out of it :)

Of course I wouldn't say no, but I cannot even get 1 Mbit/s :( What I'm saying is that, if it is as successful as they hope, then their total bandwidth is insufficient to offer 24 Mbit/s to more than a handful of users at a time and that the real speed is likely to be much lower than 18-20 Mbit/s.

From Primetel's web page http://www.prime-tel.com/Main/news.aspx ... eases&id=8

so the max speed you can get is 1.5Mbps??? WTF ok lets invest 10million in getting adsl 2+ up and running and allow 6.25% of the speed to be available to consumers. is primetel retarded or something

edit: my bad thats for the basic package. it says you can increase the internet speed as you want :p
