I am obliged to apologize to 'Oceanside 50' for my suggestion that he should be ashamed of himself for the comment he made to 'Makaroni' on another thread.
I felt it was very wrong to teach the chap how to (unwittingly) offer a vulgar expression to any unsuspecting young Lady who would probably be extremely embarrassed by his remarks.
However, in my haste to condemn HIM, I completely forgot that 'I' am guilty of the same offence as he and, I wonder just how many of us have also (at some time in our lives) lent ourselves to similar attempts to lure an innocent party into an awkward situation due to their scant knowledge of a language other than their own ?.
As a young man, it fell upon me to teach a foreign student some 'English' expressions and I undertook the task quite ready to do my best BUT, I succumbed to temptation when (in the company of others in a restaurant) my charge indicated that he rather liked the look of the 'Apple Pie' on display.
Naturally, I carefully schooled him in the art of ordering his "Arseholes and Custard" in the most eloquent 'English' accent he could muster (slightly tinged with the Orient) and the waitress was not impressed.
Neither was he, nor were the others who were dining with us, fact is, only 'I' thought it funny and needless to say, I was relieved of my duties forthwith.
Still think it funny though BUT, I must assume my position in the same boat as 'Oceanside50'.
