Actually, as often as not, the problem is not on the island. Have a look at
and you will see that the blockage is at the savvis.net nodes when contacting this forum from Cytanet. Savvis is the worst of the routings that Cyta use and is always slow, although Beyond the Network America Inc is not much better. They do use a couple of others, but it is rare for anything going outside Cyprus to end up in the light orangey pink zone or lower zone.
As a general rule, I can download, on a 1 Mbit/s nominal connection, at 800 kbit/s ± 100 kbit/s and this is well within the norms for ADSL. Occasionally, at busy periods, it may go down to half this, which I would also consider normal. A couple of days ago, Cyta did have a grave technical problem with one of their servers, which slowed everything down to less than a crawl.
