"Do you have any work related affiliations with Wavespeed?" ----> NO

Every ISp applies "Fair use policy", u cant use full speed at al times. You will get yourself into "Abusers" group where u will be first to go "LOW PRIORITY" right when bandwidth reaches its limits. Or u will be capped permanently.
Infact eating all their bandwidth for 12-15 CYP they'd prefer you to go somewhere else.

need to clear something up.
Currently using neighbours connection as Cyta messed up my transfer of phone line.
He connects via netrunner which i hate due to poor d/l speeds but i have noticed that my u/l speed constant reaches and sits at 25-30kB/s,
now that should not be happening unless he is on a 256k up but it does it all the time so ruled out a glitch.
Anyone else getting the same?

you cant get 256 on Ichoice home platform, it has to be a business DSL.
Its probably a really long server hadshaking, it does happen in the beginning of some transfers.
Some programs that use compression (P2P etc) also show incoming traffic after being recompressed.
I am only aware of PRIMETEL offering 256 upl.

You can ;) I pay for 1Mbit down/128Kbit up with Otenet Home for 10 pounds (11.50 including VAT) and I get that kind of up speed. I also have Mivision I don't know if that has something to do with it. My test at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ is:

Download Speed: 847 kbps (105.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 236 kbps (29.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Here is a screenshot when uploading with FTP

He does not have the business dsl for certain (and neither would i at the cost of it).

The u/l speed is constant on all applications and tests so compression is not part of it.

Funny enough he has MiVision too so that could be the route of it.
Pay for MiVision to get better u/l speeds lol.

I think thats an interesting theory. Tomorrow I will try our connection from work that we don't have Mivision!

How come CY seems to be so far behind UK when it comes to broadband?

In the UK, it is par for the course for 8Mb Broadband, in fact 16Mb is now becoming available.

From work with no mivision the u/l speed was bellow 128Kbit. So the mivison theory still holds! I also tried wavespeed. I was not impressed. My results with them:

Wavespeed:
Download Speed: 302 kbps (37.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 234 kbps (29.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Primetel

Postby charisk123 » Sat Feb 24, 2007 1:00 pm

I tried CYTANET, SPIDERNET and NETWAY using i-choice.

By far the best ISP for peer2peer downloads is NETWAY.
I had NetWay for 2 years and i was downloading 24hour a days. Most times i got speeds of 100kb/sec p2p. I told this to some of my friends and now their connection Flies too.

I heard good things about OTENET also but i did not tested it.

Now i have Primetel in order to be able to review Primetel on My own and talk to all about it, so you all know.

It's browsing and downloads through http and ftp is fast. most service get their advertised speed in speed tests.

The important is this :
PEER to PEER have limitations certain hours a day. For example in the afternoon until 12 at night they have a limit of 30kb/sec.
They do not have limitations approximately from 2am to 12 am in morning.

I told them about this and when they understand that i found out the truth about it they never replied my emails again. Thats why i want to share it with you.

Here is a link what happened to a uk company with same limitations:
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/0,1000 ... 554,00.htm
BT's P2P throttling 'damages' ADSL's image

Now i cannot go back to netway, because i have to change to Cyta pay installations etc..... i have to wait a bit because i heard something about Primetel allow other ISPs to join its network.
