The max of 1Mbit connection is about 1000 kbits minus the overheads. So 732Kbits is not that bad. My otenet regular adsl might be faster than your business lite if you are with netrunner. Is the connection in your office just for you or you share it with others?

1) Which is better Otenet or Netway?
2) When is PrimeTel gonna start offering services and does it have anything to do with CableNet (www.cablenet.com.cy) which is going to offer cable internet?

I've noticed some new wires on the electricity posts next to my house, which look like fiber optic cables (the way they are hung), does that mean that PrimeTel has covered my area? I live next to the International State Fair in Nicosia.

I use Otenet because it is good and cheaper than all the rest. Netway is also good but it is a bit more expensive. But maybe Netway is better for games. About Primetel I don't know. This year but not sure exactly when.

Does Otenet block or limit any traffic on non-standart ports? What's your speed on ports other than HTTP? For example, I'm using Netway currently and HTTP browsing is great 'cause they run it through their proxy but on another ports (for example, ftp transfer) I rarely can see anything faster than 10 Kb/sec. Is Otenet better in this way?

You have no choice except going satellite at a cost and little guarantee of a faster connection with limited bandwidth.

a) Yes.
b) Not sure
c) No
d) No
e) No, and never was like this.

devil, it seems that you're still in beginning of 90s. The things were changed. Have you seen this article in Financial Mirror?

No, I'm in the middle of the 00s.

The EAC may, some year, offer a better service but a few quotes from the article you cite:
the company will launch its full range of services

it is bidding hard to be allowed to place its equipment at the CyTA local sub-loops

PrimeTel also boasts its own international network with network nodes in Greece, the UK and Russia,
without saying how it is going to interconnect from the island to these networks.

In fact, the only delay may come from CyTA’s reluctance to implement and adhere to its signed and binding agreements to open up its network and allow PrimeTel to hire and place its equipment at the sub-loops.

PrimeTel is also facing other hurdles from the Ministries, the local Municipalities and other government departments for not allowing it to lay its fiber optic cables underground.

In other words, it is for the moment pure vapourware with dependence on CYTA, as I said. When I can get an ADSL2 connection at competitive rates, I'll start to believe in it and a) to e) stand for Cytanet, Spidernet and the other ISPs.[/quote]

Have you visited the primetel website? Have you seen their network diagram? I guess not, otherwise you'd not asked for the way of their interconnection.

Do you have any evidences that island's ISPs are controlled by CYTA? Have you work for any of them?

FTP is fast but I get low ID on emule. I think Netway had some speed problems some time ago but now they are resolved. This is from 23rd December:
Upgrade is now complete, Netway is now 3X Faster!

The second phase of our announced upgrade is now complete. You can now enjoy the speed and reliability you've come to expect from Netway. We take this opportunity to Thank You for baring and staying with us during the upgrade process. Further fine-tuning will be performed to lower your online gaming ping (lag) times.

We wish you Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

The Netway Team.
