How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

More bleeting

They start a war and when they lose it they want to turn the clock back.

They get rich by stopping the north with embargoes to wipe out competition and then when it goes wrong they want the EU to pay them compensation. Is this really what it is like to be a GC?

Cyprus: potato growers seek compensation for poor harvest

Disgruntled potato growers decided last night to stage another sortie into the capital next week to draw attention to their plight, their latest action since taking to the streets more than 40 days ago.

The group are asking for £12 million in compensation for a poor harvest, plus incentives to leave the profession. They claim to be on the verge of disaster as a result of increased competition since the island’s accession to the EU.

But the government has met their demands with a flat ‘no’, saying that EU law prohibits direct subsidies. Moreover, it insists state coffers simply cannot cope with the farmers’ demands.
According to estimates drawn up by the Finance Ministry, it would take £35 million to satisfy the combined money wanted by agricultural groups—including fruit growers and olive harvesters.

It was hoped that Thursday’s meeting between the potato growers and a ministerial committee would break the deadlock at the eleventh hour—before the holidays—but this proved to be wishful thinking when the farmers refused to withdraw their tractors from the Larnaca-Dhekelia highway.

The government says it will discuss only the agricultural plan that has been drafted and will not be intimidated by the threat of “dynamic measures.”

At a crisis session yesterday, potato growers from the ‘red earth’ villages of Famagusta decided to descend on the capital on Wednesday. It was not clear whether they would head for the Presidential Palace. They also refused to reveal whether they would be using their heavy-duty tractors or their personal cars.

For 3,500 years 200,000 farmers have been growing potatoes and doing it well. Now that we have joined the EU everything has gone wrong. You may have your products rotting away on the shelves because we won't let you sell them but we have lost more sales because of the EU than you have

Yep and we have an expression in cyprus that says "FAE ANKOURI".

Why are you blaming the GC for this? Maybe you should look back to the root of the problem, where it all began. GC didnt want war, but Turkey decided to invade, not to protect the TC, cause in my opinion mainland turkey couldnt give a crap about the TC, if they did this matter would have been settled years ago. And yes the GC are pissed off, do you blame them? I dont, sure they are making it difficult for a solution, but hey, they got screwed once and they sure as hell dont want to get screwed over yet again. Why should they allow the illegal state to benefit from the EU? They never wanted to be a part (Mainland Turkey never wanted them that is) of the REPUBLIC of CYPRUS and went and formed there own pseudo state and called it the TRNC, a state, country, or something which no other country in the entire world recognises except the TC peoples greatest downfall, Mainland Turkey.

Why should I be pissed off when you prove how low your IQ is?

Actually I am glad that you finally admitted that your purpose here is a counter productive one and your only aim is to spread hate and to piss others off.

But what about the potato growers article? Did you run out of turkish propaganda articles today?

Yiannakis you really have some issues with Turkey, but you have to realize that the only country that recognizes this entity called the TRNC is Turkey, they are the only ones that work and financially support TCs. As long as we have no other allies or financial independence this chain cannot be broken. Its high time GC realized that maintaining the isolation of the north does not work in their favor as we cannot develop economically to break the chain of dependence from Turkey. In effect you are not keeping the desire for reunification alive but push us further away and maintaining the only relationship we have with another country which from what you have written you feel is your worst enemy.

Piratis, again you choose to misinterpret my intentions. I was just so tired of you spreading love and good will that I thought that I would come and spoil the party. You are Christ and I am the anti-Christ.

When you stop spreading your rubbish, then and only then will I stop looking in the gutter to find more rubbish to throw back at you.

For the sake of sanity here are a few articles that I found elsewhere that make more sense than the crap you spew out and the crap I paste. I am hoping that it will bring you to a more middle of the road stance in your attitude and we can start to talk instead of acting like children. Maybe I am living with a greater hope than those who think that a united Cyprus is what we really need right now.
