As we can see there are more than 100 different groups, amongst the anti Assad group there features Turkey very prominently. This says a lot about the situation in Syria.
What a bloody mess!
And Assad created it didn't he? fact is, it is sectarian, and one side can't obliterate and have the other under its thumb forever. This is the end result. We saw it in Ireland as well.
As Syria is a secular society and has a secular government ........ please explain, with some evidence, that your supposition has any merit!
Syria was a secular society with constitutional freedom of faith. Until the so called " Arab spring" Syrians enjoyed peace and stability.
I don't understand why Paphitis makes the statements that he does, where does he get his information from ?
Sooner rather than later the west will realize what a mess it helped to create in Syria with its support of, mostly jihadist groups, Assad is not going anywhere, without him Syria will be broken into a myriad of islamic cantons all ruled by jihadists.
the assad regime can hardly be constitutional with power going from father to son. the arab spring was to democratise syria, unfortunately the yanks and the israilis hyjacked it and not helped to create this mess but actually created it. blaming the arab spring in any way for the current mess is beyond belief.
If we could hijack the spring we would have been able to save mubarak and save Egypt from a disaster.
we didn't tell Assad to shoot protesters you know and had nothing to do with Syria at any level until 2015 when we started to chase ISIL.
