Cyprus Football teams - home grounds

Postby Rovers3City0 » Mon Sep 26, 2016 8:35 am

I went to watch a football match last week, only to find that the team concerned no longer play at what is supposedly their 'home' ground!
The club was promoted last year so I presume the home ground wasn't good enough for the higher league?

Can anyone tell me which clubs in the first and second divisions play somewhere other than their home ground, I'm particularly interested in the two Aradippou teams, Alki Orklini,Ayia Napa, and Anagennisis Deryneia, and the teams based in Nicosia that do NOT use the GSP (eg Olympiakos, PAEEK etc).

The Paralimni stadium seems to host 3 teams, two of which you mention...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paralimni_Stadium

The Wiki seems to be the best research tool for this.

Just type the club name followed by "FC" to get the Wiki entry. The club names are all here:

1st division:

2nd disvision

AEL, Apollon and Aris will get a new stadium by 2019.

Wiki doesn't give me an answer to most of these questions.
It doesn't say where Alki are playing (its NOT in Oroklini, though it was last season) It also says both the Aradipou teams play at the Municipal stadium, but last year Ermis played at Dassaki Achna, this year ?? I've tried the Cyprus FA site ass well, and got no joy....

The Wiki says they play at the Neo GSZ... look at the box on the right under the logo.

Well if it's important enough you can always ask each club via email on their website, or even pay them a visit directly at their headquarters.

Where there's a will there's a way... I *wish* my job was that easy!

Rover, very few teams have their own football stadium. AEK Larnaca recently built her own stadium in Larnaca (next to the GSZ stadium). Also Anorthosis and Nea Salamis have their own stadiums in Larnaca. All other teams pay rent, including APOEL, Omonia in GSP, Nicosia; Olympiakos in Makario; and AEL, Aris and Apollon in Tsirion, Limassol. These two stadiums belong to athletics clubs, so called 'gymnastics associations' (GSP & GSO). Same for GSZ in Larnaca.

Aradippou stadium belongs to the municipality of Aradippou.

For example, Omonia had plans of building her own stadium since the early 90s.

Hope this helps.

Alki Larnaca dissolved in 2014.

Alki Oroklini is a different team, formerly known as Omonia Oroklini.
