The Classic Browser feedback...

The Classic Browser

This project turned out to be much harder than I anticipated because there are 3-4 issues with browsers that are pretty hardcore and the summer heat didn’t help at all so work had ground to a halt while I went about doing simpler things such as software/hardware repairs etc but now temperatures are much better so I’m back to finishing it off.

Anyway, the now renamed “Classic Browser” is nearing completion so at this stage I’d like to get opinions about how the program looks to potential users like the CF community, before distributing.

Please study the images and answer the questions… is the browser’s interface something you find attractive?

Does it appear like it can earn your trust?

Your feedback here is very valuable and much appreciated.

Personally I think it looks too much like something a casino would produce  Hey GR if this goes well you could move on to producing your own OS. A few years ago I toyed with the idea of installing the Cuban OS "NOVA" which as someone pointed out in Spanish means "NO GO" on my family computer. I figured it would make it easier for those highly intelligent people to get in touch with me. After much agonising I decided it would put the family under too much pressure. Now I have my own machine however, I'm thinking I might give it another go, or no go, if you catch my drift. For anyone who is still wondering why, GR's post says it all:

the summer heat didn’t help at all so work had ground to a halt

It's global warming stupid. Whilst some reckon we have about twenty years to go before humans break into the thousand year lifespan potential, others are warning that within fifty years the entire Middle East and much of Africa and elsewhere will become intolerable places to live. As Sheikh Nazim said, we are living in the last days. Anyway, GR, sorry once again for my self-promotion, good luck with your own products, my criticisms aside, they look great. Incidentally there was once a car marketed in Latin America called the "NOVA", it didn't get very far as people shunned its functionality based on name alone, if only all car manufacturers were so far sighted. 8)

The address and tab bars look like they were designed by a child ;) The menus inside the internal pages have an outdated look. Use some proper icon set for all icons you are using, including the close (x) and maximize/minimize buttons (since I guess the way you made it doesn't let you use the ones of the OS). Loose the gradients. Simplify the tabs and make them look like tabs, not buttons. Realize that you have no design skills whatsoever so look at the styling of other browsers, find the one you like best (choose one with a simple design) and style your own based on that. Here is a free icon set as an example: https://materialdesignicons.com/

I think you need to hire a graphic designer or pay to license some stock art and icons created by professionals. Or find some free ones, like what Sotos said above.

What I see here is a techie, probably very good at what he does but has no idea about sales or marketing.

Why would I want to use this browser?

Why do I need to use this browser?

...viewing your lists; an option should exist to arrange the viewing order.

Sorry, but it looks very retro.

Reminds me of one-armed-bandits or a juke box. :)

Now that is very funny!

God damn… I don’t know why I’m so attracted to retro looks and always end up creating them without even aiming to! :?

Old habits die hard I suppose… :?

Maybe removing the shine may help...

I like retro looks too - but they don't instill trust when on computers. :)
