Tracking power/telecom cables

Postby Jackjack » Sat Aug 27, 2016 4:40 am

Hello Cyprus. Boring question I know but I'm considering sinking my own cesspit at the foot of the drive but want to mark up route of utility cables 1st. Who should I approach or is there anyone in the Aya Thekla area with a Cat & Genny who could do this? The guys who have done this for our neighbours didn't use one to my knowledge. I've tried the utility companies but found this to be a beaurocratic nightmare so far, though I may be going about it the wrong way. Thanks

Everyone has by now connected to the mains so cesspits are no longer allowed in Cyprus. Those of us who still have them from the past are required by law to fill them up with soil and concrete or something like that.

Sorry GR but that may apply inside the towns but outside, in the outer suburbs and in the rural areas very few properties are connected to the main sewage system ...... because there isn't one! The 'Honey Wagons' still thrive!

If you are putting in a septic tank and a soak-away it will be within your boundary so there will be no services laid underground on your property. Put them as close to the road/footpath boundary as possible then, ..... when they get round to actually laying the main sewers ......... it will mean they will not have to dig up too much of your drive to make the connection. :)

In the fairly select new suburb of Limassol where I live, we were not connected to the mains for quite a few years and we had a cess pit serving two neighbouring blocks of flats and a suction tanker turned up every now and again to empty it. Not a nice topic, I know, but that's how it was. We are now finally connected to the mains sewerage, thankfully.

Hi All,
We don't have the option to connect to mains sewerage at this time.pipes have recently been laid at the end of the street but it could be years before we at least have the option to connect to them
The current system is a shared cesspit between around 12 villas. These fill up very quickly and no one seems to know why.In addition not everyone contributes to them being emptied which is on a frequent and regular basis. ( though Giovani help us with this as a goodwill gesture at a cost of 150 euros / year)
This is why I'm looking to sink my own with soak away and disconnect to the shared one.
The new one will go at the foot of the drive but this is where power & telecoms enters my land and I don't want to damage either during excavations as this would incur much additional cost and inconvenience particularly as the road is a private one ( which I found out about after purchase in 2005)
Thank you for the replies so far
