How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

peace and good will to all

A happy and healthy new year to you all. I grew up in Cyprus from 64 to 84 and was ten years old in Varosha when all hell broke loose. After growing up amongst greek/turk/arab/muslim and christian the most important thing I learnt was this-people will be fine until governments get involved. I am trying to say that please-don`t forget, Cyprus has always been the pawn of some arrogant government desire somewhere-in this case, the capitalist west. Lets make 2006 the year when people remember that we all bleed the same colour. We all cry too. Its about time that democracy did what it said on the tin.By the people for the people. My wish for 2006 is that violence becomes a thing of the past and human rights outway the selfish desires of capitalism. My love to all.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx :D

Reading between the lines, AGAIN is the USA at fault...... Why am I surprised???

When will you people realize that Cyprus is just a tiny piece of the pie. And the more it ignores and fights the west, the worse of it will be.

Can someone tell me when Cyprus stood by ANY US international decision?

Have we all forgotten that Makarios and the left wing where talking and supporting Mother Communist Russia before the war. Look at all the East block weapons we had then. Makarios was not called "Castro of the Mediterranean" for no reason.

Can someone tell me why should the USA have a slight reason to help out??. Personally I was disgusted to hear comments like “the Americans deserved the 9/11 attacks” coming from some Cypriots. Or seing that Cyprus was one of the last countries to send President Bush a letter condemning the attacks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 15 year old daughter was at the World Trade Center on a school trip just a few weeks before the attacks.

The closest to a solution, was turned out by vote of the GC side, rejecting it after the people where influenced by the left wing again.

Whether you like it or not, you need to change your approach towards the west. And NO!!. The whole world does not revolve around Cyprus.

Please.Until the west and in particular uncle Sam ceases to behave like the fourth Reich-don`t expect governments/people everywhere else to suddenly fall in line and begin a long-distance love affair.Whilst I certainly don`t condone violence-I do understand it-even in it`s most brutal forms. Uncle Sam has exported brutality and terrorism around the world for a very long time and, continue to do so. I`m afraid sir-with the greatest of respect, thatuncle Sam needs to change it`s approach to the majority of the world and-a world that certainly does not and will not revolve around America/Britains bank balances. As an aside, Your post seems to be littered with the words "I, me and my"- an unfortunate but illustrative example of endemic US attitudes to foreign policies.

Well “troll”, you have spoken as a TRUE socialist from the beginning of this post. You posted a wish tinted with your political views. And you have made sure to avoid anything and everything about what Makarios and the left parties did in Cyprus to cause the west to turn against them…………………...

There where as many (proportionally) I's and me's in my post as yours, but mine was in your eyes proving how the west is.

WE are sooooo brutal aren't we. If this country stopped providing aide to half the world, WE (capitalist Americans) WOULD be better off. But no matter what MY tax dollars do to help the poor in the world, rebuild Pakistan or Indonesia, ( I can go on and on here ) is NEVER enough. Thank you world for "appreciating" us.

Oh one more secret. I was born and raised in Cyprus. What you read was from a Greek Cypriot living in the USA. And proud to be an American. This is the land where WHO you know is not as important as who YOU are. That's why the rest of the world is jealous.

Happy New year!!! This is my last post on this subject. I (yes IIIIIII) said what I ( yes I) wanted to and YOU can chose to hear me or not. That is democracy.

God bless the blinded and the ignorant.

I am socialist too. Any problem with that?

Reading between the lines, AGAIN is the USA at fault...... Why am I surprised???

You shouldn't be. Since the end of WWII, USA has been behind some of the worst tragedies in the world. They have supported fascists regimes and with the CIA and their partners have overthrown and assassinated leaders around the world.

The case of Cyprus is just one example. Instead of accusing Makarios, you should accuse the CIA partners in Greece and Cyprus (Athens junta - EOKA-B) who have helped the Americans and the Turks to carry our their nasty plans for Cyprus.

Can someone tell me why should the USA have a slight reason to help out??

Not helping out is one thing. No problem with that. What they did though was to help the Turks in curring out their plans.

How about keeping your tax dollars along with your bombs in your own home and let the world alone? You give to the world X amount of dollars, and then you (USA and allies) use weapons that cost 100X to terrorize and destruct. What kind of appreciation do you expect for that? Instead of complaining about your tax money that go to feed poor children you should be complaining about the 100 times more of your tax money that goes to kill and oppress innocent people.

This is the land where WHO you know is not as important as who YOU are.

USA is a big country. At the state level nobody cares about Leonidas or John or Mike. What they care about are to satisfy their sponsors, like the big weapon industries, that without them they wouldn't be able to be elected.

My intention is not to offend-apologies if I have. I would say however that what one`s government tells it`s people is not always any pale reflection of fact by any means. The States (USA) have used the "threat" of communism to justify it`s actions for decades. I`m afraid that such child-like propoganda no longer has the desired affect when much of the world`s population now has access to(arguably) free media and, for the fortunate-higher education. My main point here is simply this: Cyprus and it`s future should be decided by Cypriots exclusively. The important point is that any future progress on the Cyprus issue should be made without violence in it`s many forms. As an aside-Archbishop Makarios was and still is- a jewel in the crown of the history of Cyprus to many.Me included. As you raise the issue of your nationality please allow me to respond: By birth, I am English. I don`t do flags/borders or indeed boundaries.I am deeply ashamed of the historic and present behaviour of my country of birth. In my heart-I am Cypriot. My ambition in life is to never carry a British passport ever again and God willing-apply for Cypriot citizenship. It is perhaps the most fundamentally important point to make but here goes....one day, people will cease the persecution of a nationality by recognising that citizens of any country cannot be held responsible for the actions of it`s ruling classes. Until true democracy finds a place in the world, citizens are powerless to influence the behaviour of it`s ruling classes.Peace and good will to all for 2006 and beyond! :D

Above all, America is hated because it is what every country wants to be - rich, free, strong, open, optimistic. Not ground down by the past, or religion, or some caste system.
