peace and good will to all

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby troll » Mon Jan 02, 2006 12:15 am

In the politest possible way-wrong on all counts. The American government is not ranked as one of the planets most popular organisations because of it`s actions. "rich" is an offence against God. "free" depends on what (in America) colour or class one is, "strong" in the sense that the USA government believes that might is right, "open" in the sense that the USA government lies to it`s own people and the rest of the world-"optimistic"? for what? A KFC and a MacDonalds on every street corner on the planet? The USA government is weighed down by it`s own past that has been built upon the exploitation and violent supression of the original Americans, one of the most heavily populated areas of wierd/bizarre religious cults on the planet and a class system straight out of Victorian British novels. Again, the facts are already attested to by many academic authors and is hardly relevent here.My point is this; why are you intent upon the defence of your governments actions when you are so clearly misinformed of what they actually were/are? Both the USA and the British governments played a pivotal role in the partition and manipulation of Cyprus. They still do.The Cyprus issue should be decided/resolved by Cypriots.Exclusively.Just as a footnote, I certainly have no intention of being involved in a protracted "America hating fan club" here. I hope to enter dialogue with others relating to the Cyprus problem and how it can be approached today.

I don't think anybody said that everything USA is bad. There are many good things. What we are talking about here is not their educational system and women, but their foreign policy.

Agree entirely sir. The Cyprus issue is not dissimilar to the plight of the Palestinian people and unfortunately, certain western nations can arguably be seen as agitators in that issue too. To confirm-I don`t believe for a minute that the persecution of any peoples will enhance the likelihood of a solution.Thank you-could`nt have put it better myself! :D

Its about time that democracy did what it said on the tin.By the people for the people. My wish for 2006 is that violence becomes a thing of the past and human rights outway the selfish desires of capitalism.

With what you suggest everybody gets his fair share, his human rights and everybody is equal to the other regardless of race, religion, language etc. Should be great, right?

It should, until you get the great powers making part of the population believe that they can gain more than what their fair share is (on the expense of the other part).
By exploiting the greediness that is inside most human beings they can keep this conflict forever and we are unfortunately too stupid to see that what you suggested: democracy, human rights for all etc, is what will in fact serve all Cypriots better.

Agree wholeheartedly! "democracy" is simply a thin veil disguising the reality-powerful corporate lobbyists supporting the position of the ruling classes. I also partially agree that to a certain extent-greed is a part of Human nature.Luckily though-"greed" is a behavioural trait and not genetic so people CAN change! Question is-how do we expose the public at large to a few needed truths? In the UK, friday nights are full of people easily spending over £100 on alcohol in the full knowledge that that money could provide fresh water for villages in Africa/feed families for months or provide warmth for the people in need. In the west, people seem to be obsessed with enhancing their perceived social image/social standing. We only have to see one talentless moron on a television program/music show and like magic-the next weekend, everyone on the street is wearing exactly the same clothes/hairstyles!! It`s pathetic! I thought we had evolved as a species? :D

Well, I guess thats how far an earth animal could go ;) We can develop more technologies, but I don't think we are able to evolve in any other sense :(

Are you kidding me?

On paper communism looks a hell of a lot better than capitalism. Unfortunately we have NOT evolved enough to carry out the work needed in order to make it work. One day we will be as wise as the ants

Probably right sir! We have X-Boxes and electric toothbrushes but if abandoned on a desert island most would starve to death because they thought that food came in tins from shops and fire came from Zippo lighters! :D
