I cant help but notice the strong smell/taste of chlorine everytime i try to drink tap water and its pretty disturbing because that was not a problem in the past

Is this phenomenon to all the people in Cyprus or its something to do with my pipes and house ?

On the very rare occasions that I drink water, it is water from the mains supply, nothing wrong with it all.

I live in Limassol too. No trouble with my tap water. Drink quite a bit of it - seldom touch the bottled stuff - especially this -

In my experience the tap water here is perfectly drinkable, provided you use the water coming directly from the mains and not water that has been in the tank. I think the difference may be that they are sending desalinated water through at the moment with the dams being so empty. For one thing, it doesn't taste as good and I also think that it is a bit more heavily chlorinated.

Interesting! I also live in Limassol (Souni) and I went to the Muckhta today to ask him to get the water tested.

It definitely has a smell and taste to it but sometimes more than others. It ruins a good cup of tea! The water is mains water but ..... IT IS FROM A TANK. Our water is pumped from Episkopi and I believe (although not 100% sure) that desalinated water is added to it at some stage. The water is pumped from holding tank to holding tank (4-5 levels) and arrives to us at around 400m amsl in stages.

So, maybe it has something to do with the desalinated water?

I always drink straight from the main supply and have only noticed this as a recent phenomenon.

Well, village water is totally different from the mains water here in Limassol city, so I don't know about that. I can immediately recognise from the taste when it is the desalinated stuff- which we haven't had for a few years apart from recently thanks to a succession of good rainy winters up until last winter.

He is actually called 'President of the Community Board' ...... calling him Mr President sounds a bit over the top and my back aches too much to bow ..... so I knuckle my fore-lock as a sign of respect.
