More useful to the thread; Why not explain how you think NATO is a significance in the Cyprus Problem discussions...... Cyprus is not a member ..... only the Turks ....... so any discussions would be related to Turkey's position in Cyprus. What would that be ...... do you see them packing up and leaving after 42 years as occupiers as a sign of their good intent?

There are supposedly three NATO members with an Interest, under the treaties, namely the UK, Greece and Turkey. Russia would be quite happy to see a falling out over Cyprus...

Far from it! I don't have fantasies I work on real world credibility and probability, not fairy tales !

I find the proven NATO link and the suggestion of re-designating the Turkish occupation forces bases as being NATO bases quite credible. I certainly wouldn't reject the statement out-of-hand. So if you think that is a fantasy, why don't you give us your take on this ?

But they are countries that are members of NATO ...... Cyprus is not a member of NATO. The only way any of these could create a NATO base is by invitation of the RoC Government. NATO has no more jurisdiction here than it has in Syria ..... as they were not invited by the recognised government. The only recognised government of Cyprus is that of the RoC. Maybe that is why they are being nice to Anastasiades, they are looking for an invite?

Did the Russians ever get their invitation to use the Paphos air base as an maintenance facility?

The British bases are simply that ..... British bases .... not NATO bases, although no doubt they have NATO countries as 'visitors' on occasion. It appears a logical consideration to me but I am sure the GC's will not be too happy if there is any truth in the suggestion of a NATO (Turkish) military base on the Island!
