That's great result mate! Cyprus really needed that to improve their FIFA ranking which is about 140 at the moment.

True...speaking of which wtf is happening to Australian football? Your best team is ranked 535th in global rankings (compared to APOEL who is 73rd) http://footballdatabase.com/ranking/world/1

No it's not! Australian team is now ranked 40 and will be in the top 30 in about 6 months :D

Greece ranked 42!

http://m.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/ra ... index.html

I'm talking about club level mate. Thats how you get a sense for the football standard of a country...and on a club level APOEL is 73rd in the world and Western Sidney is 535th!

Our clubs are also better! They just can't get the ACL weighted points.

Our players got to be better because our ranking is higher despite being disadvantaged by the weighted point system.

But I really hope Cyprus climbs to the top 100 DT.

Thanks Paphiti, but the weighted system is there for a reason. We compete against the top clubs of the world and you guys play against less competitive teams

The weighted system only disadvantages the point scoring system and makes it harder for countries like Australia to collect points but it is still ranked higher and if you go through history, Australia has always been ranked higher than Greece except for a period unmediated after they won the Euro.

Australian players are better and are more highly sort after.

Ranked 40 DT and rising. Expect 25 by World Cup qualification.

Our football is a hell of a lot more entertaining, and crowds of 65,000 plus now.

Some teams are building 300 million dollar stadiums and have in excess of 25,000 members. All the teams are competitive with little separating the top team from the bottom.

They are also owned by the City Football Group (Manchester City) and Borussia Dortmund.

I don't think so.

And neither are they ranked higher than Aussie Clubs which have more net worth than all Cypriot and Freek teams combined.

Oh and btw, there is nothing Cypriot about "Cypriot" teams either which is why Cyprus is ranked 140. In Australia, only 2 International marquees are allowed to be signed per team. The rest of the squads are made up of Australian players.

And the marquees are usually high quality players worth several million alone.

And the bank balances of these teams are virtually unlimited, and they have no debt. They can write any cheque they want because the owners are usually billionaires and one is actually owned by the Emir of Dubai (City Football Group) another by Borrussia Dortmund and another by Inter Milan.

Another is owned by a brewing company and another is owned by Woolworths etc who by the way was the guy who paid $54ion for a World Cup bid.

Football has come a long way DT - getting 100 million worth in tv Rights every year and first divion games getting over 60,000 in attendances these days which btw if higher than the EPL. Some games are now played at the MCG - capacity 100k

That's probably the biggest stadium in the world. Bigger than Brazil's Maracana Stadium.

maybe you missed this

APOEL 73rd
Western Sidney 535th

The weighting is cause we need to play against teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona in Europe while you guys play Al Xipolitous and the Philipino Rangers..

. Doesn't mean anything and you know it.

The big test is when you actually play WSW and if you ever do, Appel will be in Butthurtsville!

Australia 40 headed for 25 in no time
Greece 42
Cyprus 140.

And we play with Real Madrid and Barcelona more than you do because these teams always visit Australia. The issue is DT, we can't collect any points because our teams don't play in the CL or UEFA. So they get a default rank which isn't a true reflection of their strength especially when you got class signings like Villa etc.

If Australian Teams were in Europe then Cypriot Teams will simply get blown out of the water I'm sorry to say. We've got teams which can spend $100 million on players overnight for crying out loud. They can virtually buy out Apoel 100 times over. Do you understand that money is no object to Murdoch who owns the rights, or to Packer, CFG, etc etc

Soccer is very big business in Oz.
