Protaras/Ayia Napa area help please.

Postby bigkitty266 » Thu May 19, 2016 8:56 pm

We are staying in Paphos again this year (for the 8th time) and we do have a hire car for the duration of our stay. we have never been any further than Limassol and this year wanted to venture further afield.
So my plan was to travel across to Protaras/Ayia Napa area early in the morning and try to book into a hotel for the night so we could enjoy two days before driving back. There will be myself my daughter (she is 21) and my young son (he is 5).
where would be best for us to stay, and where would we find a lovely beach not to busy maybe somewhere you can just throw some towels down but does have blue shallow waters and nice sand (not like the beaches in paphos lol).
I have looked at fig tree bay and even though the beach looks amazing it does look somewhat crowded with sunbeds and people is this the case for all beaches ?
I know Ayia Napa is party capital and we would want to stay near the party places but i have been told it is a lovely place away from the party area is this right ?

Any recommendations on any cheap and cheerful hotels ?? and also nice place to eat ?
any other info on places to see and visit would be appreciated

Thanks in advance x

Best thing is to read the reviews at sites such as booking.com and find something that meets your needs. You should book now, because this is a record year for tourism in Cyprus so the longer you wait the harder it will be to find a good hotel. Agia Napa has nice center with a Medieval Monastery, there is a Water Park, you can visit Cavo Greco etc, but if you are going to Agia Napa / Protaras for a day then you should spend most of your day at the beach (swimming, sunbathing, beach bars, water sports etc), since that is the top selling point of that area (along with clubbing). Now... about "not too busy" beach, it really depends what you mean by "not too busy", but in Agia Napa/Protaras, in the summer, in a record high year for tourism it is unlikely that any nice beach will not be busy. Unless of course you wake up and go very early in the morning (6-8am) in which case no beach will be too busy! Tip: Next time you come to Cyprus, if you want to avoid crowds, come in mid-October. There is a bit higher chance for rain, but the water temperature is the same as in June, it is not as hot, and there are much less people (so better hotel prices also)

Napa's famous beach is Nissi Beach, don't miss it!
