...i would guess that their interest is the environment, for nesting. Those habits can be controlled by limiting the number of places that would appear inviting to them, and by carefully moving the objects that are around the home that come in contact with the ground (taking back what's yours' so to speak).
...if your home has not been inhabited for a little while, they will leave, provided that a nest has not been made; good luck.
It's probably not likely to be the semi-notorious blunt-nosed viper as they don't build nests because they don't lay eggs, as far as I know.
Most of the other snakes are welcome garden acquisitions as they will keep rodents at bay (unless you are planning on introducing a new kitten, and from my experience, that is not a happy outcome )
