Anti-Semitic comments by leading Labour party members

Postby Tim Drayton » Fri Apr 29, 2016 3:02 pm

I wonder if anybody can help me. A furore is currently being whipped up about supposedly anti-Semitic comments made by leading members of the British Labour party. However, I have been trawling through the net in search of even one such comment, and to no avail. Can anybody please give me an example of such an anti-Semitic comment? I vote for the Labour party in the UK and certainly would not do so if I thought there was anything racist about them, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

There may be some comments, in private or otherwise, I don't know, however my impression is that this is an attempt to deflect from the fact that the Tory party has been using the most virulent dog-whistle attacks on Sadiq Khan's background. Zac Goldsmith, his opponent, is of course of Jewish-Irish descent and so by insinuating that the Labour Party is anti-Semitic the Tory's and their supporters in the press are trying to present the idea that everyone is at it. I wouldn't pay this issue any attention.

Tim, the current furore is Ken Livingstone's remarks in defence of the Muslim MP of Bradford West, Naz Shah who prior to being elected an MP had posted on social media anti Semitic views, in that Israelis should be relocated to America.

Personally I have never liked Ken. What amazes me are the expressed views by commentators who somehow find it odd that Muslims and left wingers dislike Israel !!

I don't see why that view is anti-Semitic. It is clear to me that there will never be peace in the Levant until that arrogant fascist killing machine that calls itself Israel, which is not satisfied with the territory gifted to it after the legitimate residents were ethnically cleansed from it and continues to expand and ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their own land using a variety of policies including systematic extrajudicial killings, is removed from the map. Anti-Zionisn is NOT anti-Semitism. On the other hand, there is a genuine problem in that people have been born in that territory and given citizenship of this state that the great powers of the day saw fit to create and they cannot be held to account for the accident of having been born in territory that was ethnically cleansed of Palestinians, and so a solution must be found for them. Resettling these people, if they do not want to remain and learn to live in peace and harmony with Palestinians, to the USA seems like a reasonable idea to discuss. After all, the USA is not such a bad place to live and the USA bears a lot of responsibility for backing Israel to the hilt in its crimes against humanity.

No, I want an example of ANTI-SEMITISM, not anti-Zionism.

As I said Tim, this is pure opportunism by the Tory party and its supporters over the Mayoral election. The following statement by the Jewish Socialists' Group:

Tim, call it what you wish A-S or A-Z, it boils down to the same thing. Jew hating.
The Muslims and Jews have a long history of mutual ....love for each other !!
Respectfully I do not subscribe to the notion that if Israel was to be removed from the ME, hey presto , peace and tranquillity !!

Israel has aright to exist and so do the Palestinians, however the immense hatred will continue
and intensify as time goes on.

No, it does not boil down to Jew hating. I am a strong believer in a multicultural UK in which people of all ethnicities and all faiths or none can live together in peace, harmony and mutual trust. I have seen the UK go a long way down that road over my lifetime and am very happy about it. How does that make me anti-Semitic or a Jew hater? I was actively involved in the anti-rascist and anti-fascist movement in the UK as a student in the 1970's. I do not believe that I have any systematic hatred for or prejudice against any group. I would be grateful if you could demonstrate the opposite and I will try even harder. The Apartheid-style idea behind Zionism that Jews must live apart from everybody else is inherently racist. No, anti-Zionism has nothing to do with anti-Semitism or any other kind of hatred or prejudice. Please quote me one statement made by a leading member of the Labour party that is anti-Semitic.

Thanks for giving the link to that brilliant article.

Tim, here we differ as I do not subscribe to your views on multicultural UK or anywhere else for that matter. Each nation has its unique " home made" culture evolved over hundreds of years, I see no reason why alien cultures have to be embraced and nurtured in the same manner as local native cultures. The immigrants who came to the UK, as I did, have a choice. Either blend in or blend out.

As far as hating any "group" I have not suggested you do, although I must confess I absolutely detest those engaged in horrific acts such as the savages that call themselves religious, ie Isis.

Yes I have to admit I have no time for drug barons, gangsters, perverts, murderers and other scum such as those engaged in the promotion of numerous human perversions.
