Moving to Cyprus soon

Postby Camy07 » Thu Apr 28, 2016 10:56 am

Hello,
I will move to Paphos very soon.
I need some advise about which areas in Paphos I should look for when I will be there in search of an apartment to rent long term.
I am a retired person, single, and of course I will not work and I am not looking for night entertainment. I would like to live in an area which is not an expa resort like Peya or too much touristy. Ideally I would like to live in an area with a mix of locals and foreigners, where people live there all year around, an area where I do not feel isolated and with easy reach of the sea side (1 or 2 Km from the sea side -20 min. walk). I will not have a car for the first year.
I did some search on internet and I've got these ideas: Kato Paphos may be too touristy, Universal with lots of short stay rentals, tourists during high season and ghost town in winter, Pano Paphos in the middle of nowhere, Central Paphos not sure (not nice apartments) , area close to General Hospital too far from sea side, Tombs of the Kings no amenities not ideal for leaving there all year around.
I want to rent for 3/4 years an apartment with large terrace and sea view (even distant sea view). I do not want to rent a villa or a house.
I know best thing to do is to come and see personally but I really would like the opinion and suggestions from people or expat living there: there is no more precious advise from people that have already been there, done that.
Thank you

Why Pafos? Limassol in my view is a better place, as while having tourist attractions and a tourist area it is a bigger commercial centre with a life seperate to the tourist trade.

Ignore this 86 year old idiot, he knows BA about anything apart from Halal Pork Kebabs !

By the way, my late English wife, together for 46 years, spoke no Greek, never faced an issue in Cyprus either of animosity or not finding shops that their staff spoke English, Everyone in Cyprus speaks English, and the English are liked. Take it from me, my late wife was very very English, blonde, blues eyes and thoroughly English.

The kebab peddler is just a complete and utter AH !!

By the way, I speak English and I am blonde.... but I am Italian !
I have been already in Cyprus for vacation few years ago and I found the people very welcoming.
I do not need to work there since I've just retired.
I come because I do like Cyprus and again I am not English!

oh well fair enough but be prepared the gcs remember the venetians blond or not and what they did to them six hundred years ago. this bastard race has the brain of a tadpole but memory of an elephant.

only joking, enjoy your stay. but do try the north too, it is better and cheaper than the south if money is tight.
