Basically Tim, I am seeing a lot of vision coming from their Dynastic Sheikhs, and Royals. Of course, they are lining their pockets and the entire indigenous society which is about 25% of the total population, is quite corrupt from top to bottom.

However, there seems to be a lot of vision and thought in spending the Oil Money wisely as a resource belonging to their citizens to generate income so that their countries can continue to thrive after Oil is exhausted. This I don't see in Western Countries can you believe it. Our resources are being swindled to line the pockets of the most powerful corporations on the planet.

They are investing in foreign companies, buying land, gold, farms, guaranteeing their foreign food supplies so that the people can continue to maintain a particular quality of life which would ordinarily not be possible.

I think we under rate them a lot. Either that, or the west doesn't want us to see their system which could be the closest demonstration of Socialism which does prioritize their own citizens. Do you blame them? Everyone there, including the Americans are just using them. Meanwhile they are buying America's most Prime cattle and agricultural land.

They have also almost bought out all of Wall Street. Not bad for Bedouins.

You would have thought that by building all those huge skyscrapers they would have enough sense to put in a sufficient sewage system to haul away all that crap, which smells awfully bad in that desert heat. You would imagine that those buildings that look amazingly beautiful were built on a well-planned system of utilities.

I've got an Arab friend who is a professor at the University of Cairo who I'm sure can run circles around you in the topics you seem to be showing an interest on our forum, so you may want to reconsider your position on lumping 2 billion people in the same pot!

But it is not the two billion that make the decisions that lead to fiascos like this..... it is only the Elite! We have a member extolling their 'superior' intellect, 'forward vision' and 'superior education' yet many of those 2bn have to put up with this. This is a simple example of 'Arab' superiority and total incompetence. So, obviously someone with this sort of vision should be going to Spec Savers.

When in Saudi, I once drove down to the border with Yemen. To do this we passed to the western side of Mecca. We topped a rise and below us was a beautiful lush green valley, so we thought we would drive down and stretch our legs. We descended into this apparent green paradise in the desert and soon realised it was a river of 'sh*t' from Mecca! The smell was overpowering ...... it was a case of foot flat on the floor for the next few miles to get past it. It was absolutely nauseating. This is common practice in the Middle East and can hardly be held up as an example of a forward looking regime! You won't see it in Jeddah or towns and cities but outside ...... this is the norm.

I didn't realise 'your' forum was exclusive? If your Arab 'friend' is an academic ..... he would more than likely agree with me; the Arab friends I have certainly do!

Let’s start again? The decisions are made by the Elite in these societies as they are in any society. That does not imply or infer that all the others are stupid, they just do not have a say in the decision making ........ that is the reserve of the few. To build glass palaces that impress the World without having the services infrastructure to support them shows you why the Arab countries rely very much on Westerners expertise, because usually when left to themselves, they manage to screw up.

I spent over 20 years working in these countries and working and dealing with the people, and base my view on 20 years of acquired knowledge ........... not a quick business trip to a major city where I was wined and dined and shown just what they wanted me to see. Although I have been on both sides of that fence!

Your friend could well be intellectually superior on his particular subject, as I am sure both you and I are in our own fields of knowledge, but it would not make him intellectually superior on all subjects. If you would maybe replace ‘intellectual’ with ‘common sense’ then, if he has common sense and some knowledge, I repeat.......... he would most likely agree with the observation as would many of the 2bn that have no input to the decision making.

Western societies are no different ........ and it is not ‘intellect’ that is lacking in most cases, it is simple lack of basic knowledge, an inability to analyse information and to apply a bit of common sense.

I am amazed anyone would question the unfrastructure in the UAE.

It is first class, in fact quite superior to anything I have seen in any other country.

The sewerage problem was back in 2008, because the city of Dubai expanded fast beyond the capability of the sewerage works, and they have addressed these issues now. There is no stench on the streets.

One of the cleanest cities on the planet. The best Airport in the world. The best hospitals in the world. The best highways in the world and a great public transport system which is good, but other cities like London and New York have better.

They are even building their own fake islands.

And now a global center for business and finance. The best hotels and resorts in the world which puts Las Vegas to shame. The best architecture which tantalizes the senses and has everyone who visits awe struck.

They have a lot of money, and they are investing that money to benefit their citizens - bout 22% of the population. Everyone gets a job and everyone gets land, to build a house on, and everyone gets a free education and has free universal health. I don't know of any country like it. Not even any of the Scandinavian countries can ever match the UAE and soon Saudi Arabia. Not even any EU country, Australia, USA or Canada can ever match the UAE.

Quite apparent to me, that this idiotic Robin Hood has not been to the UAE or Saudi Arabia in over 30 years.

Fucking UAE is amazing. I love the place. best country in the world. And yes, it is Arabic and it still has Sharia on its statutes but is rarely practiced now. This is what is going to happen to Saudi Arabia in about 20 years time.

The first time I went to UAE was in 1999 at a place called Al Minhad about 30 kms south of Dubai. Then it was all desert. Now, the entire area is built up. The changes have been biblical.

Yes, and I fully believe that the Arabs are very intelligent to pull this off no matter how much money they have.

They are putting their Oil Money to good use finally, because they know their reserves will dry up one day.

Not even the USA has achieved what they have achieved and don't tell me that the USA never had the money the Gulf States had. It did have the money and it still has the money but they still don't have universal Health Cover.

The development the UAE has achieved is now occurring in other places including Saudi Arabia, and I don't know if anyone has noticed but Saudi Arabia is starting to close the gap. Women have been granted suffrage and further reforms will be made as they close the gap towards the other Gulf States like Qatar and UAE. It's just a slow burn.

In 20 years time, Saudi Arabia is going to be a very different place, since they almost own the world now and the USA Stock Markets. Watch and learn as the buy and own the EU and USA (I'm not joking). They will be the Masters and you will be their slaves...

They have every intention of modernizing. They just can't do it overnight like some imbeciles believe they should. They don't have to do anything but keep their country together and modernization is something that will occur naturally and organically. If no one likes it, then they can butt out of their internal affairs and live a quiet life in Cyprus. They know what they are doing, and every Saudi citizen is still guaranteed a job, universal education and health.

If you think you are better than them, think again. I can say that Western Society is friggin corrupted and full of child molesterers, but I dare anyone to even have a pornographic image in Saudi or even try and smoke cannabis. Yeh, they behead people in public, but no one fiddles with any kiddies either.
