P.S.2 A more significant issue with power cuts is that when the electricity returns there can be power surges that can damage sensitive electrical equipment. I always unplug my computers and a few other devices when there are power cuts or thunderstorms.

Well, I have a surge protector, which is not expensive and I know from experience that you need them in Cyprus because I have lost two computers in the nearly twelve years I have been here to power surges (the second time because my surge protector got old and was no longer working!). Another thing that puts me off UPSs is that I have heard there is a fire risk with them.

Thanks for all the advice so far, but in fact, I have decided that if there is to be a protracted electricity strike then I simply won't accept any work and take an enforced break. So, if anybody has any concrete information about if and when there is to be a strike, I would be grateful if they shared it. This is something that would affect all businesses in Cyprus, big and small, so everybody who is in business needs to make preparations.
