Why don't you use SVG directly? It has much better browser support and it is more powerful. For example you can use bezier curves for smooth curves. Using things like bezier curves is of course more difficult than just plotting points connected with straight lines but there are js libraries that make the whole process of programmatically creating SVG graphics much easier. Another option is Canvas, which is also made for graphics.

Oh, OK - so long as it's not my old eyes!

I'm still using my SONY VAIO laptop (which decided to upgrade me to Windows 10 all by itself last week and I let it because I'm going to get an upgrade when my son gets tired of his present laptop.
