Out of 22,000 participants !!!!

in the beginning I thought there was an ancient Greek or Roman influence to that piece of art but then again it diverts too much from those standards.
Any ideas to what stream of art it relates to/or influenced from?

I immediately thought of the frieze with the Lapiths - what was on the metope of the Parthenon.

Most other sculptors of that style were heavily influenced by this anyway as the other more recent one it reminds me of is Michelangelo's Pietà (Jesus dying on Mary's lap).
