NATO to stop shameless threats by Turkey.

Postby GreekIslandGirl » Thu Feb 11, 2016 5:11 pm

Turkey has shamelessly threatened the EU with sending more of its migrants which is tantamount to exploitation and abuse of innocent humans.

Erdogan threatens to send refugees to EU as NATO steps in

In a speech in Ankara, Erdogan stepped up his denunciations of Western policy in the refugee crisis, confirming he had threatened EU leaders at a summit meeting in November that Turkey could say "goodbye" to the refugees.

Erdogan sought to turn the tables on the EU by saying Turkey had every right to turf the refugees out of the country if it so wished.

"We do not have the word 'idiot' written on our foreheads. We will be patient but we will do what we have to. Don't think that the planes and the buses are there for nothing," Erdogan said.

The website had quoted Erdogan as telling Juncker: "We can open the doors to Greece and Bulgaria anytime and put the refugees on buses."

Speaking after NATO defence ministers approved the mission, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said NATO is "now directing the standing maritime group to move into the Aegean without delay and start maritime surveillance activities".

The man, Erdogan, is imo a nutter. Whilst I think Turkey does have some grounds for expressing frustration with EU /UN and the world at being told it must stop migrants leaving Turkey for Europe and it must open its borders to the latest flood from allepo, the bombastic combative way Erdogan is reported to be expressing these frustrations is not imo constructive, helpful or the best way to have such concerns heard.

As to NATO being used to stop this alleged 'threat' by Erdogan, that is just classic GiG distortion as far as I can tell from the actual news item

http://news.yahoo.com/erdogan-threatens ... 43752.html

The NATO deployment follows a request this week by alliance members Germany, Greece and Turkey for assistance in tackling Europe's biggest migrant crisis since World War II.

He (Secretary Genera of NATO) emphasised: "This is not about stopping and pushing back (refugee boats)... but about critical surveillance to help counter human trafficking and criminal networks."

Turkey's Erdogan "taunted EU leaders" over migrant deal

Leaked minutes purport to show Turkish president in furious exchanges with senior EU leaders over efforts to stem migrant flow

By Peter Foster, Europe Editor7:10PM GMT 08 Feb 2016
Europe’s torrid relations with Turkey over the migrant crisis were apparently laid bare yesterday after the leaked minutes of a meeting appeared to show Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, openly mocking senior European leaders.

The publication of the alleged minutes threaten to undermine the chances of cementing the deal which is dislike by some senior EU diplomats who are against dealing with Ankara, citing the Turkish government’s questionable record on human rights.
The leaked minutes also support the contention, widely held in Brussels, that Mr Erdogan is not sincere about implement his side of the bargain, in which Turkey holds more migrants in exchange for visa-free travel to the EU and renewed accession talks.
In the purported exchange, the Turkish president openly derides Mr Juncker and Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council.
“So how will you deal with refugees if you don’t get a deal?,” Mr Erdogan reportedly asks, asking rhetorically if Europe will “Kill the refugees?” if it doesn’t get its way.

Mr Erdogan also rails against the publication of a negative Brussels assessment of Turkey’s suitability for joining the EU, reportedly calling the report “an insult”, adding that “most Turks don’t want to become members of the EU because of reports like that.”
The fact that Mr Juncker confirmed that Brussels endured intense media criticism for delaying the publication of the report until after last year’s Turkish election to assist Mr Erdogan’s ruling party, cut no ice with the Turkish president.

“Like a prince?”, Mr Erdogan reportedly retorts, “Of course, I’m not representing a third world country”, accusing Mr Juncker of being “disrespectful” and warning him “don’t smear it [EU hospitality] in my face.”

My oh my. Don't these Turks have a problem with reports ....

The spineless and corrupt EU should now just slap sanctions on Turkey and see what happens, but alas!

He's going to push the EU and his NATO allies too far one day, he risks losing the trade agreement with the EU, Turkey would be well rid of him. Silly sod thinks that just because he has the biggest palace in the world he's top dog. Pride comes before a fall. Shooting down one Russian jet has cost his country a fortune, but then what does he care, he's got shoe boxes stuffed with cash. :D

If you have any credible evidence that the deployment of NATO ships in the Aegean is to 'control Turkey' or protect against alleged threats Erdogan made in this meeting with the EU that occurred after the request by countries including Turkey for NATO assistance happened , then you really should present it. So far the sources you have provided would seem to be saying that the deployment of NATO ships was at Turkey's request along with Greece and Germany (all NATO members) and there is no mention that these deployments are aimed at Turkey or a reaction to the alleged threats at all within these sources. The report specifically talks about the NATO deployment as being 'in a separate move'. In the absence of any actual evidence of linkage between the two things I will make the reasonable assumption that they are just BS claims made up by you as per normal.

Are him and Putin have a "my palace is bigger than your palace" argument? Little in my view to choose between them, both subverting the democratic process by suppressing opposition, shutting down media thst is critical of them, corrupt, building palaces. The dispute is equally costing Russia as lots of products, now banned for being Turkish, came from Turkey and the alternatives are not as cheap, so prices go up for the average person.

According to erolz's thinking, NATO is going to the Aegean to stem the flow of migrants from .... erm ..... from leaving Greece and sailing to Turkey, right. :? What logic!

Ash Carter, US defence secretary, said the “principal aim” of Nato involvement would be the fight against groups facilitating the daily passage of thousands of refugees to the Greek islands.
FT

Of course Germany is sending ships to stop Turkey's threats of 'turfing' more migrants across to Greece and Bulgaria. And Turkey cannot say "No" to NATO so it does what Turks do best - pretend they are on board and then find some way to screw everyone and turn it to their advantage.

I already told you the evaluations suggested more help was needed across the EU's external border! Let's hope they focus on helping Greece, but somehow I doubt it.

But, don't worry erolz. Your foul Turkey always manages to get the best deal for itself!

My logic is based on thinking that Jens Stoltenberg the the Secretary General of NATO may actually have a better idea of what the purpose of this NATO deployment is that GiG does. I know that is hard for you to understand but hey there it is.

"This is not about stopping and pushing back (refugee boats)... but about critical surveillance to help counter human trafficking and criminal networks."

My logic is based on it being unlikely that this NATO deployment that was requested by NATO alliance members Germany, Greece and Turkey BEFORE the meeting where Erdogan allegedly made the threats was a response to those threats, that had not been made yet.

My logic is based on it being vastly more likely that when the yahoo news report describe the NATO action as a 'separate move' to the Erdogan's alleged threats, that they are correct vs your immediate linkage between the two events that you have yet to provide any evidence for other than your own personal assertions.

My logic is based on it being vastly more likely that I actually know what am thinking better than your claims here as to what I am thinking.

Same old same old relentless distortion then that is as blatant and loud as your continuing deafening silence [url=http://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus44527.html]here{/url] is so telling.
