A few facts to give some perspective to the year 1961 in the UK.
Harold McMillan was the Prime Minister, Tony Blear was a mere 8 years old and our current PM Cameron was not born !
Colour TV was yet to make its entrance, 24 hour TV unheard of, Parking meters were a few years away, Mobile phones were not even a figment of imagination, McDonalds were years away and computers had yet to be discovered.
October the 30th 1961, Russia tested the Tsar Bomba , hydrogen bomb, the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated. Its test on October 30, 1961, remains the most powerful man-made explosion in human history.
On the social life the Brits were heavily into fish and chips wrapped up in newspaper and lager was considered a ...sissy drink.
There were no Indian Restaurants if any I did not notice. Mass immigration had yet to commence, very few " coloureds" as was the name given to black people then, hardly any Asians and to the best of my knowledge there were no mosques or women dressed in black and covered from head to toe.
Life was indeed so much different from todays London / UK life.
Another interesting fact was that there were no Kebabs, Lordo introduced them much later !!
The Cypriots were considered as ....knife throwers, terrorists and very very.....sexy
