Turkish language CyBC comming soon?

Postby tsukoui » Sun Dec 27, 2015 9:18 pm

BBC Scotland runs services in Gaelic despite only a tiny percentage of the population actually speaking the language. Isn't it time CyBC had a Turkish language channel? At the very least, if full Turkish programming is too expensive, they should offer Turkish subtitles for existing programming. This serves strategic purposes as well. Why do you think the U.S. spends so much money on Radio and TV Marti. You could argue that it is not effective as the Cubans continue to support their government, but occupied Cyprus is not Cuba, the TCs do not support Turkey.

There is the bilingual Biz-Emeis programme on CyBC 2 at 7 pm Mondays to Fridays, which is in both Greek and Turkish and provides subtitles in the other language throughout. Some of the bilingual discussions using simultaneous interpreting are quite interesting.
