Over the last 5 years or so, I have come to know Russian people more than I did before.
In the past I always had the impression that they were generally not " warm" , not very friendly and damn right rude. Having got to know them I have dispelled all the myths I had heard before. They are, not unlike the Cypriots, also very family orientated with uncles, aunties, cousins etc, etc, and they do smile , even at the airport customs.

I also found Belarus a very safe country, Belarusians are very similar to Russians.

Where ever I go either accompanied or on my own, I use the oldest " icebreaker" ever discovered by humans, a warm smile and a firm hand shake , it works wonders.

Almost forgot, Russian women are by far the most gorgeous females around. I stll like the opposite sex even at ....69

There are many Russians who know what is going on and are very critical.

I worked with a Russian Engineer from the Russian Air Force who now lives in Australia. He told me that during Perestroika, the Communist Party siphoned state assets and monies into overseas Swiss accounts. If you were one of the anointed ones, you became a Billionaire overnight and those not in the Centre of the circle would be millionaires. Others went into the Mafia.

Pootin is one of the anointed ones and is estimated to be worth some 70 to 200 Billion. So he is obviously nowhere near as good as your girlfriend thinks!
