What's wrong with the Mig 29???

:? It’s been fucking superseded like 5 times! I already gave you the good modern Russian stuff that would be compatible with our equipment and non-NATO.

NB: We *MUST* have non-NATO equipment if we're to be able to defend ourselves.

Singapore fits twice into Paphos district...

So if size is your argument...
Nevermind the funding, that'll come in time.

F-16s are ok but if you buy now, the F-18F is far superior. That is what I would look at since Turkey is getting the JSF.

The Super Hornet is fantastic, with the latest in weapons systems, has 2 engines and better survivability.

Cyprus should put an order in and see if Congress pass it.

I agree..
They've been given an opportunity for future state of the art purchases.

Concerning Russia...
What's your take on the MiG 29?

It's good and around half the price of a F-18. So you can get twice more.

Russian support and back up, even spare parts are not as reliable as the Americans across the board, which is why you pay more and why many countries prefer American. The Americans bend over backwards because they will want to make more future sales and will be banging on your door from day 1 to lobby for a replacement fighter procurement whereas the Russians are generally hopeless and will leave you stranded for parts for months at a time.

At the very least the CNG can turn your “Turkish Cypriot” arse into glass so that alone is worth gold.

Getting back to issue for Cap... US made equipment always come in 3 “flavors”:

1. Made for the US military <-- Top notch

2. Made for NATO <-- A notch or two down for "partners" with backdoor electronic access in case the partner turns against them.

3. Made for export <-- Great if you’re suicidal offering backdoor electronic access for the two above!

The coalition has only lost 1 aircraft in the ME and that was a Jordanian F-16. It could have been a mere engine flame out resulting in the hapless Jordanian pilot going down in DAESH controlled territory.

One of the reasons why Australia, Canada and Israel prefer the F-18 and F-15 over the F-16 is for exactly that reason. They are twinjets which means better survivability and redundancy, especially for these countries which might operate over enemy territory. For instance, they would like to reduce the risk of a downed aircraft as much as possible and a captured pilot in DAESH controlled areas.

Imagine public opinion of an American, Australian, British or Canadian pilot were captured by DAESH are burned alive. There would be a huge uproar.

Which is why there are American, French and Australian Soecial Forces in the area. They are ready for the possibility that we lose an aircraft.

There is no back door access. They just might not sell you some of their weapons and radar systems. It depends on who the buyer is.

NATO members usually have the good stuff.

Australia, Canada, Britain usually end up with the exact same American versions.

But America controls the GPS constellation and that alone allows them to render pretty much most weapons useless if they wanted to.

I would say that Cyprus would not even need the same level of technology as these countries as it only needs a Fighter with air to air capabilities to defend its airspace. The aircraft can be configured to meet that need.

F-15

Wait a sec
I'm a bit old school, forgive me.
But correct me if I'm wrong, but the F-15 is an ancient relic in the USAF.
How does an ancient heavy bulk take preference over the more versatile F-16?

F15-falcon is superior to the F-16.

I didn't say it was ideal for Cyprus. It is however a top notch fighter for Israel and they have been upgraded to have the same weapon systems as the F18. Israel thinks the F15 is the best, and it might be for them.

Cyprus would be better off with F-18s probably over the F-16

For years Australia had the F111, and these aircraft were the ducks nuts!

The F-16 is probably considered entry level.

F-15 is way better!
