In all honesty, I hope the Russian pilot ejected and is alive and well. I really do hope that.

However, I am glad that Turkey has stuck to its guns and shot down the Russian Jet if only to send a strong message to Pootin that he should watch his step. Pootin has been sailing too close to the wind for a long time now.

It is promising the increased amount of Russian Cooperation since the Paris attacks and the shooting down of the Russian Airliner, and we do now appreciate Russia's efforts in combating DAESH recently, but all too often we have been bitten by Pootin's unpredictability and unworthiness.

This action by Turkey should take Pootin down a peg or 2.

The statement made by the Turkish Chief of Staff:

24 Kasım 2015 tarihinde saat 09.20 civarında Hatay Yayladağı bölgesinde Türk Hava Sahasını ihlal eden milliyeti bilinmeyen bir uçak defalarca (beş dakika içerisinde 10 kez) ikaz edilmesine rağmen Türk Hava Sahasını ihlal etmiştir.

Söz konusu uçağa angajman kuralları çerçevesinde 24 Kasım 2015 saat 09.24’te bölgede hava devriye görevinde bulunan iki adet F-16 uçağımız tarafından müdahalede bulunulmuştur.

TRANSLATION:

At around 09.20 hours on November 24 2015 in the Hatay Yayladağı area a plane of indeterminate nationality encroached on Turkish Air Space on multiple occasions (ten times within five minutes) despite being warned.

The plane in question was confronted under the rules of engagement at 09.24 hours on November 24 2015 by two of our F-16 planes that were engaged in air patrol duties in the area.

The Russian Ministry of Defence is saying:

- A Russian SU-24 plane has been brought down in Syria.
- It was probably brought down by ground fire.
- Both pilots managed to eject but their fates are currently unknown.
- Russian planes have at all time flown over Syrian territory.

I love the bit where they say they always fly in Syrian Airspace!

Also the bit about the Su-24 being bought down by ground fire!

Anyway, Pootin has been exposed. From now on we know he is just talk and trying to save face.

I guess he will think twice now:

According to the BBC, the plane “is believed to have come down in a rebel-held area.”

It really doesn't matter! If the Russian Jet was flying within a mile of the Turkish Border without communicating with the Turkish FIR, then the Turks would be nervous about it.

In the end, the aircraft got shot down, and it doesn't matter to me whether it was in Turkish or Syrian Airspace. Turkey did the right thing.

In the end, it's a very powerful message to Pootin and I commend the Turks for having the balls to do it and proving that Pootin is not as staunch as he likes to portray.

Once again, it seems Turkey are protecting IS-held territories.

No just its own airspace!

It was only a matter of time.

And frankly, if he is going to blame the rebels, well the coalition has lost no aircraft to "ground fire" over the last couple of years. I mean who do they think they're kidding? An AK-47 just can't shoot down a fighter at 20000FT.

But that's ok! Message has been sent! 8)
