Of course they are allied to Turkey because Turkey is sending them aid. Why are you surprised?
The coalition sent them a lot of aid in Iraq too and literally saved their bacon when they were facing complete annihilation from DAESH. Do you remember the Air Drops into Kurdish, Yazidi, and Turkmen areas?
Now as to the shooting of the Russian Engineer, I do not condone that at all. They could have captured him and handed him over to the coalition for interrogation.
Or we can hold him as a bargaining chip in case one of our Pilots are ever captured.
Furthermore, the Russian Engineer was armed. All pilots, navigators and Flight Engineers are always armed. And they are trained in close quarters combat, and to evade and survive. They also carry rations, knives, radios, and Emergency Locator Beacons.
You would have learned this when a Turkish Aircraft was shot down in Polis and the hapless Turkish Pilot was dangling helpless from trees. When a villager approached him in a somewhat angry manner, the Turkish Pilot pulled out his pistol and just shot him dead.
Moral of the story here is that Pilots are soldiers, and they carry weapons, so its no good approaching them with a shot gun.
Ethnicity doesn't matter to me. You are against them because they're Turkish. Well, the Turkmen have a right to survive, and to be a part of Syria's future. They are Syrian after all. The same applies to any Kurds, Yazidi and Assyrians in Syria.
The issue here is that the Assad regime continues to attack them.
