The British already have bases in Cyprus, which the Americans freely use on a request basis.
Giving every poutana a military base in Cyprus would be like spitting and stepping on the beautiful white dove and branches of olive (symbols of peace) we decorated our flag with.
Stop masturbating with foreign lube.
One time, a US President told an Australian PM not to rely on the USA. The USA will take care of its interests first! It will also be looking at some level of self reliance because that is all you can depend upon 100% before it commits American lives. The Australian PM was Keating and the American President was Reagan.
Recently, the USA warned both the UK and Australia to not be a part of the Chinese People's bank. Both countries defied the USA and signed. Australia has been a huge investor in China on top of that, and arguably China's biggest investor.
Obama told Australia's PM that the USA will get over it and understands that Australia is looking after her interests.
This is the only thing that is absolute. Interests!
So basically, the point is, those bases are British, not American. The Americans asked for a base and this request was denied. Maybe Makarios was looking after RoC interest, but I think it was the worse mistake in Cypriot Contemporary History. To even suggest that this babba is smarter than the leaders of Singapore is amazing to me.
In the end, you got to try and look after yourself, otherwise you might want to keep some of your own lube in the draw.
