Hey, it's not 'democratic' to illegally colonise a territory with your own foreign people and then hold a referendum!

these were lands that had terggish people naturally. they have just as much right to decide their future as anybody else.

they will rule themselves in good time. things are a changing fast. erdogan has not got long left. few more weeks and then he will revert to the figurehead that his position entitles him assuming they dont arrest him for murder and give him a fair trial and then hang him.

There are no 'natural' turkish lands, sillyman - all have been stolen!

Hatay/Alexandretta had a minority turkish community - as does Cyprus - but Turkey flooded Hatay/Alexandretta with peasant Turks to colonize it and then claim some victory with a 'democratic referendum'. Illegal! No one is happy with what happened then and the world is wiser now to what Turkey is trying to repeat in Cyprus!

So for heaven's sake stop supporting illegal colonisations as being 'democratic', you backward throwback!

A map published circa 1911 highlighted that the ethnic make up of Alexandretta was majority Arab with smaller communities of Armenians and Turks.

Many consider that Alexandretta had been traditionally part of Syria. Maps as far back as 1764 confirm this.

The subsequent Treaty of Lausanne also put Alexandretta within Syria.

This referendum has been labelled both "phoney" and "rigged", and a way for the French to let Turks take over the area, hoping that they would turn on Hitler. For the referendum, Turkey crossed tens of thousands of Turks into Alexandretta to vote.

What bullshit.

If the children of all the Greeks and Armenians you drove away and persecuted and commited genocide upon came together and voted today on a referendum how much of modern day Turkey would be left you scum.

Just the Kurdish part, to be given to the Kurds at first notice.

Fuck off to Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
